    BMW iX2: Pros

    Sporty, slick styling

With a rakish profile based on the BMW X2, the all-electric iX2 will surely catch the eyes of admiring onlookers while traveling on the road.

Up front, the vehicle showcases a sharp and angular version of the German brand’s signature kidney grille. The said grille is flanked by a pair of angry-looking LED headlamp clusters and is topped by a sculpted hood.

As standard, the EV unit is made more appealing thanks to the M Sport package. The aforementioned provides the vehicle with numerous aerodynamic enhancements and a set of 19-inch M-specific wheels. It also gets an M High Gloss Shadow Line, which further enhances the appearance of the EV unit when viewed from the side.

The rear of the iX2 adds further flair through its wide haunches, its eye-catching LED taillights, and its prominent rear spoiler.

    Oozing in functionality, safety

As expected of a Bimmer, the iX2 was kitted out with plenty of premium touches and features. But while comfort is top-notch inside the all-new BMW EV, it is likewise brimming with bits that will make driving and using the vehicle easier and safer.

For the driver, it offers adaptive cruise control, which is useful for staving off fatigue, especially during long road trips. The EV model can also actively warn the driver of on-coming objects through its front collision warning system. Likewise, the vehicle is easier to park thanks to its Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant.

Other advanced driver-assist features found on the iX2 include a lane departure warning system, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, and steering control assist.

Cargo capacity for the iX2 is also quite notable, thanks to its default space of 525-liters. With its rear seats folded down, however, the said space can be stretched up to 1,400-liters, which is more than enough for camping-related items, sports equipment, or several travel bags. In addition, loading up the trunk is made effortless, thanks to a power tailgate.

    Peppy performance

While the BMW iX2 isn’t the fastest SUV in the German brand’s local lineup, its all-electric powertrain can already deliver a respectable 204 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque. As a result, the said model can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 8.9 seconds. It also has a top speed of 170 kph, which is relatively rapid considering the vehicle’s weight.

The athleticism of the iX2, though, goes beyond power, as its agile handling is a notable selling point as well.

Per BMW, the all-new EV unit received a well-balanced and lightweight body structure coupled with a front single-joint spring strut axle and a rear multi-link (three-link) suspension system. The aforementioned are also paired with the brand’s adaptive M suspension, which features a lowered ride height, frequency-selective damping, and sport-tuned steering. Thanks to the said components, the iX2 may provide engaging driving dynamics, which won’t let the driver feel too disconnected from the road.

    Tech forward

For the tech-oriented car buyer, the BMW iX2 also has a lot going for it. For starters, it features a huge widescreen, which is formed by the vehicle’s 10.7-inch center infotainment screen and its 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster.

Together, the said displays offer sharp graphics and a highly responsive user interface. Both also use the BMW Operating System 9 and the latest version of the marque’s iDrive software. Thanks to the two, the model is highly digitalized and is intuitive for many types of users.

Apart from its large displays, the iX2 also boasts wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Coupled with its wireless smartphone charging pad, users of the EV model can do away with annoying cables entirely. For those who prefer to live a wired life, however, the iX2 still has a total of four USB Type C ports and a 12-volt accessory outlet.

Other useful technologies present for the BMW EV include an Active Navigation system with real-time traffic information, accessibility to the MyBMW smartphone application, and remote software upgrades.

To note, the MyBMW app allows the iX2’s owners to remotely control the ride’s air-conditioning door locks, plan trips, and keep track of nearby charging facilities, among others. The app can also show the car’s relevant data pertaining to maintenance and its location.

    BMW iX2: Cons

    Lacklustre range

While the BMW iX2 is notably peppy, its range falls a bit short when compared to many of its similarly-priced rivals.

For additional context, the Kia EV6, for instance, offers a range of 526 kilometers (km) on a single charge. The Volvo XC40 Recharge, meanwhile, also has a range of 537 km.

Compare the two aforementioned EV models with the iX2, which has an estimated range of 430-473 km. The said figures are right for in-city driving, but users taking the model for long-distance out-of-town trips should check if their destinations have EV charging facilities.

    Price

The Philippine-spec BMW iX2 eDrive 20 M Sport is priced at P4.29 million. Its asking price already covers a free wallbox charger, and a five-year BMW factory warranty.

    Final thoughts

Overall, the BMW iX2 is a potent choice for those wanting a luxurious and sport daily-drivable EV model.

Do remember, however, that this list of pros and cons for the iX2 is based on its spec sheet. As such, it is highly advised for serious buyers to give the all-electric Bimmer a thorough test drive first.
