Celebrate the Chinese New Year with these scintillating cars in RED
The Chinese New Year is draped with the color red. Decorations, lanterns, cash envelopes, boxes of tikoy are all splashed in this color, making 'red' a pretty big deal during this time of the year. Who knows, you may actually get lucky by winning the annual dice game and get some juicy ang pao. For those that are less fortunate, we have some sizzling cars in red that will you get in the festive mood.
Toyota 86 – Possibly the most exciting car put out by Toyota in a while. This car is purely aimed at the fun factor with no fancy bells and whistles. It comes with a non-turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 197 bhp, driving only the rear wheels. This Toyota is a sports car first and foremost, and it still has two small back seats and a decent boot for everyday activities though. Only the Mazda MX-5 is a real rival for the 86.
Mazda MX-5 – A car that has made it to the Guinness book as the bestselling roadster around the globe. This iconic sports car is one of the most recognizable on the planet, and it has stuck to its roots since inception. Exhilaration is derived by non-turbo petrol engines driving the rear wheels along with 50:50 weight distribution.
Honda Civic Type R – The word ‘hot hatch’ is synonymous to this legendary machine. With a 316 bhp 2.0-litre turbo engine, it can sprint from 0-100 in a mere 5.7 seconds and tops out at 270 kmph. All this power is put down via the front wheels with the help of a limited slip differential.
Chevrolet Corvette – Pure American muscle. A massive V8 spewing out over 650 bhp and an exhaust note that is music to the ears of car enthusiasts. This ‘evil’ machine needs a capable master to tame it, but once you do, there is nothing quite like it.
Kia Soluto – This new subcompact sedan is the latest addition to the Kia Philippines lineup. It lines up below the Rio hatchback and adopts a new, more upmarket design language. Interior traits are borrowed from the Rio with slight modifications. The heart of the matter is the 1.4-litre engine which makes 94 bhp and 132 Nm.
Toyota Camry – Possibly one of the most successful sedans world over, the new Camry is wrapped a new sportier premium look while being larger than the outgoing model. Doing duty under the hood is the 2.5-litre dual VVti petrol engine making 181 bhp and 231 Nm.
Lexus UX – This striking new dynamic release by the company forays into the subcompact luxury crossover segment. The car uses the Japanese concept of Engawa to obscure the boundaries between the interior and exterior. It also among the first Lexus cars to use interior trim inspired by washi (Japanese paper).
Subaru WRX – A legend in its own right, the WRX is due for a refresh, but it can still hold its own with the new kids on the block. The 265 bhp 350 Nm motor never feels short on power and is a great tractable engine even at lower revs.
Wish you all a very happy and prosperous Chinese New Year!
