Dodge Charger Vs Ford Mustang- Performance Rulers in the Philippines
MANILA: It is the battle of muscles as the newest Dodge Charger 2014 comes face to face with the iconic Ford Mustang 2015. The Philippine automotive industry is already entangled in chaos as several new car models make their official presence at the ongoing MIAS 2016. In one corner we have the legendary Ford motors that have been one of the oldest names in automobile manufacturing and have created some timeless automotive masterpieces. In the other corner we have the equally seminal Dodge that previously teamed up with Steven Spielberg and Doc to create a time machine that sent the automotive world spinning back to the future. The Ford Mustang is without a doubt one of the most timeless masterpieces of automotive art, while the Dodge Charger was also one of the most loved muscle cars in the 70s with its 1969 and 1970 models. With the latest variants of these masterpieces present in the Philippine market, it would be totally unfair if we didn’t do a comparison story. So if you’re a fan of either of these two cars, let us take a brief look at their various aspects to find out, which is the better machine.
Exterior
Comparing both their exteriors will certainly be the hardest task for this comparison as both Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger have a highly stylish body design that looks pretty fitting for a modern muscle. Although it is highly unlikely that Dodge will be able to produce anything as beautiful as the 1970 era Chargers, but that doesn’t mean that the 2014 model is any less of a marvel. It features a new design that will demand immediate fan attention. The face comprises of a large cross shaped grille with a highly stylized rear that feature a large taillight cluster that includes 164 LED bulbs that flow across the entire trunk.
The 2015 Mustang on the other hand features a more modern design aesthetic that is a major departure from the design seen on muscle cars of old. The face features a large wide grille embellished with the Mustang logo, along with a narrower yet symmetrically placed bottom radiator mesh. The sleek tapered headlamps too wrap around the corners and look absolutely stunning.
Engine
Being two of the most popular muscle car brands in the history of automobiles, both Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger underpin some of the finest examples of automobile engine assembly. The Dodge Charger is offered with a choice of two engines namely, a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 mill and a 5.7-litre HEMI V8. The V6 mill puts out 305 hp while the V8 generates 375 hp. The V6 is mated to a 5-speed auto transmission and the V8 is presented with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2015 Mustang too is offered with a choice of two engines including a 5.0-litre V8 that puts out 435 hp, shadowing anything that Dodge will have to throw at it. If you consider such power too much to handle, then you can also buy the Mustang with a 2.3-litre EcoBoost mill that churns out 301 hp. Both engines are controlled by a 6-speed automatic transmission with 6 selectable modes for driving under various weather conditions and terrain to ensure maximum control.
Interior
Being highly expensive muscles, both vehicles have highly comfortable interiors that totally suit their respective external design. The Dodge’s interiors are covered in a jet black leather upholstery with ambient lighting that provide a soothing effect to the occupants’ eyes. It also comes with heated seats and heated steering wheel to ensure maximum comfort while driving.
The Ford Mustang is a total departure from all the conventional dogmas of a muscle car and features interiors that would put any sports car to shame. The seats sit much lower than the older models along with a cockpit that looks like you’re driving an airplane. The electric power assist steering adjusts automatically to various driving conditions and roads. The audio and various controls have been placed directly on the multifunction steering to allow ease of operation while driving.
Safety
Both Dodge Charger 2014 and Ford Mustang 2015 are some of the safest vehicles in the market. Despite their monstrous powertrains, both vehicles have been equipped with the latest safety technologies such as ABS, EBD, Forward Collision warning, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, reverse camera and parking assist etc.
The Mustang clearly excels in terms of engine power and looks, but that surely doesn’t mean that the Charger is any less of a competition. With immense power and a highly appealing muscle car design, both Ford Mustang and Dodge Charger will find an immediate place in the hearts of Filipino autogeeks.
