Electrified vehicles at MIAS 2023 could 'shape mobility'
As in previous years, the 18th edition of the Manila International Auto Show displayed the most cutting-edge items in the automotive industry, cars that blend beauty, brains, and muscle.

So, today, let’s look back at a few electrified vehicles shown at MIAS 2023. These vehicles have different versions of electric power, but they all have the common goal of fuel-free and zero-emissions motoring, which in turn should create a cleaner planet for us all.
Foton Tornado EV
Per the truckmaker, the Foton Tornado EV is the first electric truck to be sold in the Philippines.
Driving range on a full charge is 208 kilometers (using the global WLTP standards) while charging may be done via AC or DC charger (2-4 hours on DC and 12 hours on AC from 20% to 100% charge). The Foton Tornado EV has a payload of 6,000 kilograms with a load mass of 3,600 kilograms and a curb weight of 2,400 kilograms.
Peugeot E-2008
Peugeot Philippines previewed the kind of EV we Filipinos can expect once the French carmaker proceeds with its plan to offer only electrified vehicles.
The E-2008 can travel up to an estimated range of up to 214 miles (344km) and is powered by a 50kWh battery and 100kW electric motor. With support for 100kW quick charging, a charge from zero to 80 percent may be finished in under 30 minutes, as per specifications in its home market.
Chery Tiggo 8 Pro e+ Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

The Tiggo 8 PRO e+ can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds thanks to its powerful combined 320 horsepower and 545 Nm of torque from its gasoline engine and electric motor. It has a driving range of up to 95 kilometers when operated only in electric mode, making it perfect for daily city travel. Charging only requires three hours.
Jetour Ice Cream EV
Also a brand under the Chery umbrella, Jetour is entering the local market with a two-door electric hatchback that’s small both in size and price.
The Jetour Ice Cream spans 2.9 meters long and 1.4 meters wide — yet it manages to seat four occupants. According to the manufacturer, the EV can travel up to 170 kilometers on a single charge and will take over eight hours to fully charge from empty to full. Sticker price is slated to come at P699,000.
Nissan Leaf, Kicks E-Power
Take your electrified mobility pick between the Leaf, which uses full-electric power, or the Kicks E-Power, which is powered by both electricity and gasoline.
Based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standards, the 2023 Nissan Leaf's 40 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a range of up to 311 kilometers on a full charge. As for the 2023 Nissan Kicks, it boasts E-Power, and this comprises a 100% electric motor-driven system whose electric motor completely drives the wheels. The e-motor gets its charge from a 2.13kW lithium-ion battery pack, which in turn, sources its juice from a 1.2-liter ICE acting as a generator.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6
Hyundai has spawned the Ioniq line of pure electric vehicles as part of its carbon neutrality agenda.
At MIAS 2023, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedan was previewed as it could be sold alongside the Ioniq 5 here in the Philippines soon. Once fully charged, an estimated range of up to 545 kilometers is enabled by the Ioniq 6. Featuring a sleek design and well-appointed interior, the Ioniq 6 could come at P4-million come release time.
BYD Dolphin, Han, and Tang
With its Dolphin and Tang models, BYD boasted that it is the only carmaker at MIAS 2023 that bannered only EVs.
The BYD Dolphin is a hatchback that enables up to 400 kilometers on a single charge. In the form of an SUV, the BYD Tang offers AWD and 500km. Focal point of the company’s EV showcase was the Han EV Sedan, BYD's premier full-sized sedan. The BYD Han EV sedan has a luxurious appearance, state-of-the-art technology, top performance, and a 500km range.
