Here's a full spec check of the Nissan Leaf
Nissan has finally joined the electric vehicle (EV) segment in the local market with the local launch of its world-famous Nissan Leaf.
The Nissan Leaf, which is the brand’s flagship full-electric vehicle, made its world debut in 2010. It was developed as part of the Nissan’s Next transformation plan that aims to promote sustainable mobility by producing innovative EVs.
One of the major advantages of owning an EV like the Nissan Leaf is the lower maintenance cost. EV owners never have to pay for fuel, oil changes, tuneups, and emission tests.
The Nissan Leaf is powered by an AC synchronous electric motor that generates 150ps and 320Nm of torque. The vehicle also comes with a 40kWh laminated lithium-ion battery that sits low on the chassis for a low center of gravity. With the available home charger (EVSE cable), the Nissan Leaf can be charged overnight in a standard 220V power source with a dedicated socket. For faster charging, Nissan Leaf owners may opt to install a wall-box charger that can fully charge the vehicle for approximately 7.5 hours.
Nissan offers EV charging stations in select dealerships (Mantrade Makati, Otis, and Cebu South-V. Rama). Using a quick charger, the Nissan Leaf can be charged from low battery indicator to 80% in approximately 40 minutes.
Based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), the Nissan Leaf has a driving range of 311 km on a single charge. To maximize the range, the driver can select among the three drive modes that come with the Nissan Leaf: Normal Mode, B Mode, and Eco Mode. The B Mode produces more regenerative braking that charges the battery without compromising on driving power. Meanwhile, the Eco Mode minimizes motor output and saves energy. The B Mode and the Eco Mode can be activated at the same time to get the most mileage out of the vehicle.
The Nissan Leaf gets a single-speed reduction gear transmission. It can accelerate from a standstill to 100 kph in 7.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 140 kph.
For better handling and performance, the Nissan Leaf’s suspension system has independent MacPherson struts and coil springs up front, and torsion beam axle and coil springs on the rear.
To guarantee the safety of every occupant in the event of an accident, the Nissan Leaf is equipped with supplemental restraint system (SRS) airbags and emergency locking retractor (ELR) seatbelts. It also comes with anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), vehicle dynamic control (VDC), high mount stop lamp, Isofix child seat anchorage, immobilizer, and vehicle sound for pedestrian (VSP).
The Nissan Leaf is also equipped with Nissan Intelligent Mobility features that boost the driver’s confidence on the road. It includes the e-pedal driving feature that allows the driver to accelerate, decelerate, and brake with only one pedal. Pressing down the pedal will deliver an instant rush and easing it off will enable the vehicle to slow down until it reaches a complete stop.
The vehicle also comes with an intelligent emergency braking feature that monitors your speed and the distance between you and the car ahead. If you need to slow down, the system will notify you through audible and visual alerts. It also helps avoid frontal collision by automatically engaging the brakes.
The Nissan Leaf also comes with intelligent cruise control that automatically accelerates and decelerates the vehicle to keep suitable distance from the vehicle ahead.
Other Nissan Intelligent Mobility features on the Nissan Leaf include hill start assist, intelligent driver alertness, intelligent around view monitor with moving object detection, blind spot warning, high beam assist, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, intelligent lane intervention, and intelligent trace control.
For better visibility, the Nissan Leaf is equipped with projector halogen headlamps, LED daytime running lights (DRL), LED tail lamps, and front and rear fog lamps.
The Nissan Leaf measures 4,490mm long, 1,788mm wide, and 1,540mm tall. Its 2,700mm wheelbase translates to ample cabin space that can accommodate up to five people. The driver-centric cockpit features an advanced drive assist display that indicates the relevant information of the drive including range, power use, and audio. The steering wheel is purposely designed in a unique D-shape not only to give the vehicle a sportier look, but also to make it easier for the driver to enter and exit. The Nissan Leaf is also equipped with an eight-inch advanced touchscreen display audio that can be linked to a smartphone through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For a more comfortable ride, the Leaf comes with an automatic climate control system with heater. It also has cup and bottle holders on the center console and door trims. You can even charge your mobile devices while on the road through the 12V accessory socket and USB port on the cabin.
The Nissan Leaf is equipped with 60:40 split rear seats that can be folded to expand the cargo space. If the rear seats are up, the cargo room can accommodate up to four golf bags. With the seats are folded, you can store one bicycle inside.
The Nissan Leaf makes driving more convenient as it comes with a push button engine start/stop system and a keyless entry system. It is also equipped with power windows on the front and rear, and power central door locks for the driver and the front passenger.
The Nissan Leaf also allows bi-directional charging through vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology. The energy from the vehicle can be used to supply electricity to residential and business establishments or give back energy to the power grid.
The Nissan Leaf is exclusively available at Nissan Global City, Nissan Mantade, Nissan Otis, Nissan Cebu South, Nissan Matina, and Nissan Tagum. To learn more about Nissan’s flagship full-electric vehicle, check out its full specs on the chart below:
