Hyundai Eon - Buyers guide

Hyundai Eon - Buyers guide

The Hyundai Eon is a cute-looking and by far the smallest car from the Korean automaker. Being very basic in terms of tech and modernity, the small hatch gets what’s important. Despite a compact structure, Hyundai Eon offers an intelligent and roomy cabin. Thanks to the clever planning put in the backdrop by the skilled Hyundai designers.

Hyundai Eon Exterior

The Eon carries a flowing design language just like other high-end Hyundai cars, packs an efficient engine for daily commuters to get along and standard safety features to feel relaxed while you are on the move.

It is a subcompact hatch with a handsome set of standard features and upmarket looks. But is it worth to spend on this hatch for your daily commuting needs? Well, in this buyer’s guide we tell you everything you need to know.

What’s special?

What’s impressive about the Eon is that it doesn’t hit hard on your pockets - offers a pleasant riding experience, looks great from the outside as well as inside and returns a remarkable fuel efficiency of 20.8 kmpl. On top of that, it is easy-to-manoeuvre, park and maintain.

While the boot door is small, it sports a large windscreen that makes reverse parking super-easy. There are plenty of storage spaces available inside the cabin, 5 cup holders including the ones present at the centre console and doors. Additionally, there are more cubbyholes for your knick-knacks, an upper dash tray and back pockets in the front seats.

Engine, variants and performance

There is only one variant available in the Philippines and that is 0.8GLX 5M/T. The Eon is powered by a three-cylinder 814cc petrol engine that churns out a max power of 56 PS at 5500rpm and a peak torque of 74.5 Nm at 4000rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine is tuned to provide improved drivability and best-in-class performance.

Hyundai Eon Engine

The unique selling point of the Eon in the markets it is on offer is its fuel efficiency. Hyundai claims it to return more than 20 kmpl, which is incredible to suit the needs of a daily office goer. Making the figure a little more realistic, expect it to return anywhere around 16 kmpl when driven on crowded city streets. Its highway run is not bad though, it’s fun to drive on highways too and can return around 21 kmpl on highways.

Exterior, interior and features

In terms of style, it is one of the outstanding hatches available on the market- with a decent front fascia comprising of big headlamps, sleek chrome bar and well-positioned fog lamps. The character lines all over make it up for a modern outlook while the integrated rear spoiler, body-coloured side mirrors and door handles add to the sportiness.

Hyundai Eon Interior

Interiors, on the other hand, complement the outside charm. The vinyl-cloth seats are well cushioned to comfort you while the flowing lines over the dash lend an upmarket touch to the hatch. Every cubic inch inside the car is intelligently-designed and used. It is more of a comfort package than inconsistency, thanks to the storage compartments, fixed headrests for both front and rear occupants and manual mode air conditioner. It comes with a boot space of 215 litres that can be enhanced further by completely folding down the rear bench, a welcome feature to have on a four-wheeler.

For your entertainment needs, there is a 1-DIN entertainment system that comes with AM/FM Tuner, CD, MP3 and Aux-in support.

Safety

Hyundai Eon Safety

On the safety front, it has covered you with a square-shaped radiator support panel, side impact bars on the doors and reinforced floor panel, reducing impact force by a substantial margin. In addition to this, there is a rear door lock feature for child safety, a high mount stop lamp and seat-belts with ELR.

Colors

You get eight shades to choose from - Midas Gold, Mystic Blue, Polar White, Phantom Black, Pristine Blue, Red Passion, Sleek Silver and Star Dust.

Pricing

In the Philippines, the Hyundai Eon retails for Php 508,000.
