Interior department: What's inside a Ford Mustang?

On the outside, the Ford Mustang is sleek yet muscular, with subtle sinews that seem to be carved out on its part aluminum, part steel body.

While the Detroit automaker did well in trimming down the sixth-generation model, it still holds the DNA of a typical American sports car with its big nose and wide body.

That being said, the Mustang's exterior is pretty much straightforward. You get the massive grille with the pony, the large hood, the wide-track tires, the fastback shape, and the sight of the three-bar taillights as you choke on its dust.

Now we’ll focus on what it packs inside. The tech, the equipment, the amenities, and even the comforts that come with a true American muscle car.

First thing to note is there are four standard trims to choose from, the 2.3L EcoBoost Premium SelectShift AT (automatic transmission) priced at P2.858 million, the 5.0L V8 GT Premium SelectShift AT Fastback that goes for P3.538 million, the 5.0L V8 GT Premium SelectShift AT Convertible retailing for P3.718 million, and the 5.0L V8 GT Premium MT (manual transmission) Convertible with a price tag of P3.618 million.

But as all expensive cars go, each of these variants come with various upgrade packages to enhance the performance, handling, and experience of the Mustang. For the purposes of this deep dive, we’ll only tackle what happens in the cabin.

With Ford’s affinity for big things, it didn’t surprise me one bit that the Mustang key fob is somewhat larger than the previous generation. If you’re the skinny jeans-type, it will make an impression in your pocket. It comes with Intelligent Access with push-button start.

Given its low profile, you’re going to have to squat down lower than the usual to get in but, trust me, it’s worth it.

The first thing that immediately jumps out is the illuminated door sill scuff plates with the image of a mustang and the name spelled out in all caps. That’s my kind of welcome.

The 2.3L EcoBoost Premium SelectShift AT comes with Recaro sport leather-trimmed front seats that are manual adjustable, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted cruise control, audio and five-way switches, leather shift knob and shifter boot, leather-wrapped parking brake lever, and leather trim on the door panels well.

In the 5.0L V8 GT Premium SelectShift AT Fastback and Convertible are heated and cooled leather-trimmed seats with six-way power adjustment and driver memory seats capable of keeping three settings, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted cruise control, audio and five-way switches, leather shift knob and shifter boot, leather-wrapped parking brake lever, and leather trim on the door panels well.

Standard among all variants are power windows with global open and one-touch-up/-down feature, dual electronic automatic temperature control (DEATC), auto-dimming rearview mirror, integrated rear head restraints, ambient lighting with MyColor, two 12V power points, a 12-inch color fully customizable digital instrument cluster, a Shaker Pro audio system with 12 speakers and subwoofer plus HD Radio Technology, Sync3 with an eight-inch color LCD capacitive touchscreen in center stack with built in navigation, a tilt and telescoping steering column, angled brush aluminum trim on the instrument panel, premium door trim including soft rollover, a universal garage door opener, LED fog lamps, heated sideview mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, and aluminum accelerator, brake and clutch pedals.

Exclusive to the 5.0L V8 GT Premium SelectShift AT Fastback and Convertible are four-way adjustable front head restraints, pony projection lamps, and for the Fastback, 50:50 split-fold rear seats.

The infotainment system of all variants offers 911 Assist, AppLink, Apple CarPlay compatibility, Android Auto compatibility, AM/FM stereo/single-CD player, an amplifier and 9 speakers, bright-finish door speaker surrounds, SiriusXM Radio with six-month trial subscription, and two smart-charging USB ports.

Optional for all trims is a voice-activated navigation system with pinch-to-zoom capability, and integrated SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link.

Should the owner wish to upgrade or enhance certain accessories, Ford has laid out several packages to choose from.

The Premium Plus Package comes with a 12-inch configurable LCD (liquid crystal display) digital instrument cluster with MyColor, a heated steering wheel; SYNC Connect 3 embedded with a 4G LTE modem powered by FordPass App (includes Wi-Fi hotspot capability), voice-activated navigation system, and premier trim with color accent group which includes hand-stitched center console lid, wrapped knee bolsters with accent stitching, shifter boot, color-accented leather-trimmed front seats and unique door-trim panel inserts, wrapped center console with accent stitching, and a linked graphite aluminum instrument panel trim.

Other packages offer safety and performance enhancements.

Customers may also change the color and trims of the interior and seats. Choices are Ebony Cloth, Dark Ceramic Cloth, Ebony Leather, Ebony Leather with Alcantara inserts, Ceramic Leather, Tan Leather, Showstopper Red Leather, and Midnight Blue Leather.

Interior accessories include ash cup/coin holders, carbon-fiber gear shift knob, cargo organizers and protectors, carpeted floor mats, first aid and roadside assistance kits, floor liners, illuminated door-sill plates, interior light kit, sport pedals, tablet cradle, and a UVS100 custom sunscreen.
