Lightweight Champs: Alternatives to the 2023 Suzuki S-Presso AGS

Suzuki Philippines has shown that it cares about the requirements and opinions of its customers by releasing the eagerly-anticipated Automatic Gear Shift (AGS) variant of the New S-Presso.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How does Suzuki's Auto Gear Shift work?

The same five-speed manual gearbox is utilized by AGS, but a shift control actuator is computer-controlled. This enables automatic clutch engagement and gear changes.
  • What are the variants and prices of the 2023 Suzuki S-Presso?

The AGS variation costs P660,000, while the Manual Transmission costs P620,000.
  • “The S-Presso AGS will address the demand of our customers who have been waiting for the automatic version for quite some time now. We fully understand why the S-Presso has become a status symbol and a bold statement of one’s lifestyle, especially the young generation who wants to make a mark and fulfill their commitments in life,” said Norihide Takei, Director and General Manager for Suzuki Automobile.

The S-Presso AGS now offers drivers a more convenient, effective performance, and cost-effective drive that supports its distinctive design and style.

Suzuki Auto Gear Shift System, S-Presso Engine

A manual transmission can execute automated gear changes or shifting without the driver needing to depress the clutch pedal — thanks to a current Suzuki invention known as the AGS.

The new one-liter K10C engine's Engine Auto Stop Start System (EASS), which automatically shuts down the engine when the car is idle to prevent unnecessary fuel use, enables this beauty to deliver a joyful ride while saving money. Suzuki estimated the S-Presso's fuel consumption to be 25kpl.

    2023 Suzuki S-Presso Equipment

The Suzuki S-Presso's most distinctive feature is its center console, which has a unique design and is enhanced by a modern digital speedometer. The manual controls for the air conditioning system, a 12V outlet, and a USB connector are all located beneath the infotainment display.

Inside the hatchback, new features include a multi-information display with a trip computer and a new generation touchscreen music system with built-in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For better voice reception during a hands-free talk, it also has an overhead microphone that is placed closer to the passenger. Steering-wheel-mounted audio controls are now possible with Bluetooth hands-free control.

    2023 Suzuki S-Presso Safety

The revised S-Presso has various passive and active safety features. With the addition of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), the automobile can now be driven while it is turning.

Another feature to pay attention to is the Hill-Hold Control, which stops the vehicle from rolling backwards on steep inclines. Additionally, to aid the driver in maintaining control and comfort while driving, this cutting-edge technology automatically regulates the engine's power and selectively applies the brakes.

    2023 Suzuki S-Presso Prices

The competitively priced 2023 Suzuki S-Presso AGS is available in four colors: Sizzle Orange, Metallic Granite Gray, Fire Red, and White. The AGS variation costs P660,000, while the Manual Transmission costs P620,000.

For more or less the same price as the S-Presso, you can look at other alternatives in the market, and these come in various shapes and sizes.

Alternatives to the 2023 Suzuki S-Presso

    Changan Alsvin — P654,000 to P794,000

In the Philippines, Changan only offers one subcompact sedan: the Alsvin. The only passenger car in the lineup, it is introduced to the nation with three variations and two engine choices. The base model has a 1.4-liter engine and a manual transmission, but the other models have a 1.5-liter engine and a 5-speed DCT. It has a lot of goodies for a sedan, including leather seats, a sunroof, a 7-inch touchscreen system, and rear cameras, to mention a few.

    Chevrolet Spark — P695,000 to P735,000

Chevrolet's debut into the lucrative subcompact hatchback market in the Philippines is the Chevrolet Spark. Inside, the Chevrolet Spark boasts a simple dashboard design with smaller knobs and buttons that are illuminated with LED lights for improved visibility at night. The center console is embellished with a 7-inch touchscreen display with the Chevrolet MyLink system, which is operated by the buttons on the steering wheel. Enjoy the 1.4L gasoline engine in the Spark, which is paired with a CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission.

    Honda Brio – P680,000 to P838,000

The Honda Brio has the largest engine in its class, a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine with 89 horsepower and 110 Nm of torque, linked to a 5-speed manual transmission or, if you choose an upgraded model, a CVT automatic transmission — all of which make the Brio a subcompact despite its small size. A tiny hatchback with some punch, and all the room and comfort one would expect from a Japanese brand. A bonus is its nice appearance, and in its higher trims, the RS model extends the good looks even more.

    Jetour Ice Cream — P699,000

The Jetour Ice Cream is a cute, compact, and environmentally responsible little city automobile that radiates friendliness from all sides. The Ice Cream EV, which goes on sale globally in July 2021, is the fourth model in Chery's QQ lineup of compact vehicles. The ice cream is offered for purchase in the Philippines under Chery's Jetour label. The 27 hp Chery electric motor powers the lithium iron phosphate battery pack that the Jetour Ice Cream is outfitted with. According to reports, Ice Cream models offered in China have an electric range of 175 km and a top speed of 100 km/h.

    MG 5 — P699,000 to P939,000

The MG 5 is a subcompact that feels and looks larger than it is. It is equipped with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and either a 5-speed manual transmission or CVT automatic transmission. With 118 horsepower and 150 Nm of power, the 5 base model, which starts at a whisker below P700,000, is one of the most powerful in its price range. It also comes with a few decent extras. Additionally, you receive an infotainment system with an 8-inch screen that increases to a 10-inch screen at a higher trim level.

    Suzuki Dzire — P609,000 – P819,000

The Suzuki Dzire is one of the most affordable cars in the Philippines right now, which is a stunning entry into the price range. The Dzire, which is based on the enduringly well-liked and renowned Suzuki Swift, offers excellent handling and unexpectedly good fuel economy numbers from its 1.2-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine, which makes 82 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque.

    Toyota Wigo — P573,000 to P705,000

The Wigo's tech features are limited to the absolute necessities because it is an entry-level Toyota. The updated features include a dashcam, a reverse camera, and a seven-inch infotainment system that now supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for G versions and higher. The Toyota Wigo's dependable and effective one-liter, three-cylinder engine is mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission.
