Nissan sportscar spec showdown
Nissan obviously doesn't take its Nismo appellation lightly.
To earn the badge of the in-house tuning, motorsports, and performance division of the Japanese carmaker, a model needs a remarkable level of manufacturing details, requires commensurate engineering and testing. After all, it takes a unique combination of ability to generate the feel and look of a Nismo.
Nismo development drivers are considered to be the most competent among all Nissan test drivers. Their specializations include skill on the high-speed Autobahn and the Nürburgring racetrack.
Thus, it is said that they will only sign off on a Nismo vehicle when it has satisfied their high standards.
In addition, Nismo development drivers are not just racecar drivers who are more concerned about the fastest lap time. They also consider the feel of the vehicle — how exciting they are to drive.
So keep this in mind as we look at Nissan's two sports cars via this little spec comparo: GT-R Nismo and the 370Z Nismo.
The Nissan GT-R Nismo is focused on improved aerodynamics, greater responsiveness, and lightness. Its engine breathes through turbos engineered from the company's experience in the GT3 racing program. It considers the power plant as the ultimate demonstration of innovation, performance, and passion. Its power also promises response across the rpm range.
Furthermore, the GT-R Nismo is equipped with large pads and rotors, along with a new, rigid caliper, whose special paint will not fade even at extreme temperatures.
A Nissan/Brembo Carbon Ceramic braking system also lessens unsprung weight, which in turn, improves steering response and handling.
Inside, the Nissan-GTR Nismo remains focused on the driver experience thanks to its suite of connectivity, comfort, and safety amenities.
On the other hand, the Nissan 370Z Nismo boasts of a competition-tuned chassis, huge brakes, larger tires, innovative aerodynamics, and an extraordinary VQ V6 engine.
Years of motorsport experience along with wind-tunnel tweaking aided Nismo engineers to fulfill the requirement for serious downforce without neglecting the vehicle’s low drag coefficient and signature lines.
Moreover, its racing-inspired interior allows you to feel connected with the road once you enter the cabin and start the engine.
Both of these Nissan models carry the Nismo feel. But numerous features set one vehicle apart from each other.
