Same but also different: Ford EcoSport vs. Ford Territory

Although the newer Territory contributed a considerable chunk to Ford Philippines' 2021 sales, 1,500 people reportedly didn't forget the long-standing EcoSport model. 

Since it was launched in 2014, Ford continued to update the EcoSport so it can adapt with the latest auto trends, and also satisfy customer preferences.

The most obvious change starts with the exterior, which saw a more aggressive front end, new alloy wheel design, and a reskinned rear bumper as part of a mid-life refresh. What remained is the spare tire mounted on the sideways-opening tailgate, which is a neat old-school touch. 

Ford's designers also worked on the EcoSport’s interior, too. The redesigned interior was made to perhaps better accommodate the new nine-inch touchscreen, which features advanced Sync3 audio system with its Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity functions.

Through the EcoSport's Sync3 infotainment, occupants can manage playlists, scan text messages, and make phone calls while on the move. Occupants can command Sync through voice command as well. 

Parking the EcoSport is made easier with a reversing camera. Meanwhile, the mini crossover's 209-millimeter ground clearance should provide a high riding and driving position. 

Moving on to the Territory, it's safe to say its looks immediately won buyers over. The Territory wears a trapezoidal grille that's flanked by slim LED headlights, muscular wheel arches, and a wraparound-style windows. Of course, the important SUV-esque styling kit — the faux cladding and tall ride height — is included in the mix. 

The Territory's interior is as stylish as its exterior, with piano black accents and sliver and wood-like trim inlays. A panoramic sunroof and even mood lighting will enable the occupants to see this interior better. 

Aside from the current Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-capable infotainment, the Territory carries more tech under its sleeve. We're talking about its 360-degree camera for navigating tight spots, blind spot monitoring for extra safety, and Enhanced Active Park Assist that parks the car with minimal human application needed. 

With everything considered, there's plenty that separates the EcoSport and Territory. And yet there's also not much between them, especially in terms of price.
