Suzuki Ciaz - Why is it better than other sedans?
The Suzuki Ciaz is comparatively a newer addition to the Philippines market. At the time of its introduction, the Japanese company just had one thing in mind, which was to further elaborate Toyota’s stronghold on the country’s automobile sector.
And indeed, the sedan that Suzuki chose to do the trick here was the subdued and inoffensive little Ciaz. But guess what, the entry-level sedan isn’t as subdued as it sounded at the time of the launch. It does really pack a punch with its elegance.
However, there is one question that almost all of the automobile enthusiasts had. Is the car good enough to take on the segment leaders, the new Toyota Vios and the Honda City?
You guess so, well here are the reasons why we think the Suzuki Ciaz is better than the other sedans in the Philippines.
The design
Let’s be open about this, the Suzuki Ciaz is a looker, isn’t it? Even though it has the segment greats to compete with, it does a pretty well to look darting with its sharpness. The swept back headlamps are sharp and loveable. The multi-slated grille has a lot of chrome added to it.
There are sharp lines around the sides, which look appealing and add to the attractiveness. Also, the overhangs and wheel arches make for the perfect proportion. Again, even though the front and sides look timid, the rear profile is actually sporty.
Dimensions
The Suzuki Ciaz is a big car in its segment. In fact, it is bigger in length than both the Honda City and the Toyota Vios. If we compare it with the previous generation Toyota Corolla, which belonged to a higher segment, it is just marginally shorter. This results in increased dimensions as well as cabin size.
Big cabin
You may not rank this, but the Suzuki Ciaz is extremely roomy. It is probably the biggest car in its segment and while being so, the cabin is made to be extremely spacious and comfortable. The only car that could match up to the cabin size of the Ciaz is the Nissan Almera, which is not as attractive as the Suzuki.
Comfort
You will love the Suzuki Ciaz the moment you enter inside. The top end GLX variant features fine leather upholstery on well-cushioned seats. The driver and front passenger’s seats are ergonomic, and so is the rear row, which is always a great option to have if you want to keep away from being tired on long trips.
Cabin features
There is a lot on offer on the Suzuki Ciaz. To start off with, there is a touchscreen infotainment system with Android connectivity. There are steering mounted controls for the audio system, which include six speakers. And then, the layout of the dashboard and instrument cluster is the nicest of all the cars in the segment.
Massive boot
Guess where the long length has contributed most? The increased dimension is distributed strategically between the cabin and the boot. Yes, the trunk-loading space of the Ciaz is extremely big and can accommodate a lot of your travelling gears and luggage. The storage is big and deep, thanks to the width and the lower suspension setup.
Suspension
The Suzuki Ciaz has a low suspension setup. Hence, despite having the standard MacPherson Strut front and Torsion beam rear suspension (both with coil spring), this low setup makes it a very comfortable car.
Standard safety
The Suzuki Ciaz has a lot of safety features given as standard. These features include dual front airbags, defoggers, ABS and EBD, and side impact beams. Together, they make for an all-around car.
Engine
The engine that is given under the hood of the Suzuki Ciaz may not be the most powerful one, but yes, the way the company has tuned it makes it the smoothest. The car is offered with just one engine option, which is a 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol motor. It is capable of putting a power of 92 PS along with a peak torque of 130 Nm.
This is the same tried-and-tested engine that Suzuki has been using for a long time now and has managed to perfect it with experience.
Transmission
The Suzuki Ciaz is probably one of the few cars in the Philippines that is offered with two transmission options. Apart from the 4-speed automatic unit, there is a 5-speed manual gearbox for the base variant too.
Conclusion
The entry-level sedan space in the Philippines is one of the most sought-after segments and manages to woo a lot of takers. However, even with so many competitors doing well already, the presence of the new Ciaz is an example of the confidence that the company has rested on it. It is just as feature-loaded as any other model but with bigger dimensions, larger cabin and huge boot storage space.
