Vehicle launches
As we’ve mentioned earlier, the 12th edition of PEVS played host to several EV launches. Here are some of the notable debuts that occurred at the EV summit.
VinFast VF 7
VinFast Philippines has officially launched the VF 7 in the Philippines on the first day of the EV conference.
For those who do not know, the VinFast VF 7 was first previewed when the brand marked its entry into the local automotive market. The VinFast VF 7 was showcased alongside the marque’s other offerings. It was also there that the local wing of the Vietnamese carmaker teased the VF 3, which was launched at an earlier date.
The VinFast VF 7 is offered in two variants. Depending on the trim, it can come with either a single electric motor or two electric power units installed on each of its wheel axles.
Sitting at the base of the variant hierarchy, the VinFast VF 7 Standard grade gets a 59.6 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery, which powers the front wheels to make 174 horsepower (hp) with 250 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.
In terms of range, it is capable of reaching up to 375 kilometers (km).
On the other hand, the VinFast VF 7 Plus uses its 75.3 kWh battery pack to give power to its twin electric motors, which propels the low-slung EV sport utility vehicle to reach a maximum power of 348 hp with 500 Nm.
Range-wise it is able to drive up to 431 km.
The VinFast VF 7 is priced from P1.760 million (Standard) to P2.380 million (Plus). Like most VinFast cars, the VF 7 is also offered with a battery subscription program, which slices the price to P1.470 million and P1.730 million, respectively.
FAW Bestune Pony
Looking to disrupt the local electric compact car segment is the FAW Bestune Pony.
The mini city EV is fitted with a single electric motor paired with a 13.9 kWh battery pack. It can generate up to 26 hp with 85 Nm and can go as far as 170 km.
Marketed as a “daily galloper,” the FAW Bestune Pony can seat up to four passengers.
The driver is presented with a two-spoke steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster. Controls for the vehicle’s windows, air conditioning unit, as well as the gear shifter are all mounted onto the dashboard.
The FAW Bestune Pony is sold in a sole variant, priced at P588,000.
BYD Seal
BYD Cars Philippines officially launched the Seal at PEVS 2024.
The high-performance electric sedan uses an asynchronous motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous motor at the rear.
In unison, the said setup produces some 522 hp with 670 Nm to propel the BYD Seal from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.8 seconds.
The BYD Seal is equipped with the brand’s Blade battery, which is rated at 82.5 kWh.
Sold in a single variant, the electric performance car will set buyers back some P2.548 million.
Philippine debut
There were also some vehicles that made their local debut, and one of those is the Jaecoo EJ6.
Jaecoo EJ6
Jaecoo Philippines also brought the EJ6 to the country.
It is available in two options (a rear-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive) and uses a six-in-one motor system. The former is said to generate 185 hp with 220 Nm while the latter can produce 275 hp with 385 Nm.
Both vehicle grades offer 421 km of emissions-free driving.
Charging solutions
One of the obstacles that seem to stop would-be adopters is the lack of charging infrastructure. That said, various companies answered the call and presented their offerings to those wanting to switch to a cleaner means of mobility.
These brands include Power Equipment and Supplies, Incorporated as well as Park N Charge.
