Two Faces of Toyota Wigo & What They Have For You
The best Micro Car for year 2014-2015 in the Philippines, Toyota Wigo is back again with its latest model. When we say micro cars, that clearly doesn’t mean that the Wigo is small by any means. The vehicle presents a highly spacious interior design that have been magically crammed inside a compact yet smart looking exterior that is sure to catch onlooker attention. It is a well known fact that the Philippine buyers are more inclined towards executive vehicles, especially the B-segment sedans that have been a rage in the market driving a major chunk of sales. Nevertheless, the growing population and the increasing traffic has begun to take its toll on the countries in Asia Pacific leading to the emergence of a growing ‘small car’ market. With the neighbouring Indonesia already opening up to the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) segment, it is certainly a wise choice for Toyota Motors Philippines to invest in a smaller sized car. Toyota Wigo is a great example of a vehicle that is not only easily maneuverable in city traffic but also offers a great fuel economy with low emissions making it perfect for small families. The current rendition of the Wigo is offered in two variants namely the entry level 1.0 E MT and 1.0 G AT.
1.0 E MT
Being the entry level variants do not expect a lot of frills to appear on the Wigo 1.0 E MT. Nonetheless, the powertrain and power specs for Toyota Wigo all remain the same on both variants. The base model dumps most of the chromed garnishes and has body color pillars. The interiors too look more toned down as compared to the higher variant. The center console however, is presented with silver accents that are missing from the 1.0 G albeit with a 1 DIN music system with 2 speakers in the front cabin. On the safety front, the 1.0 E is provided with SRS airbags for the front seat occupants and braking power supplied from solid 12 inch discs. Front and rear passengers and driver get the 3-point ELR safety belts and child protection locks that also come as standard accessories.
1.0 G AT
The second and the highest trim available for Wigo Philippines, the 1.0 G AT shares the same engine and specs as the base model but is supplied with a 4-speed automatic transmission. This not only provides more driving comfort to the 1.0 G but also better fuel economy in heavy traffic. Apart from the gearbox assembly there are also several features on the AT variant that sets it apart from the 1.0 E. The face looks more chromed up with accents on the radiator grille, headlamps and foglamp housing. The b-pillars have also been provided with a contrasting black tone and 14 inch alloy wheels that make the vehicle look much sportier than the regular model. It also includes a rear spoiler with integrated LED brake lights. The ipod and navigation ready centre console is also provided with 4 speakers. Talking about occupant safety the expensive G variant is equipped with ABS along with 13 inch ventilated disc brakes. The doors can also be locked wirelessly.
Both versions of the Toyota Wigo are powered by 1.0-litre DOHC gasoline engine that churns out nearly 65 bhp @ 6000 rpm with a torque of 85 nm @ 3600 rpm.
