What can customers expect from the Hongqi E-QM5?

The Hongqi E-QM5 all-electric sedan was launched in the Philippine market last year as an up-market option for those wanting an electric-powered compact sedan. 

The said model is relatively new to the ever-changing local battery electric vehicle (BEV) segment. So, the question now is: what can customers expect out of this BEV model? Let’s find out. 

Stylish and sleek

On the outside, the E-QM5 was provided with a visually impactful front fascia combined with an elegant side and rear section. From the front, it uses a closed-off grille outlined by large and curvy LED daytime running lamp strips. The vehicle’s main LED headlamps, meanwhile, are neatly tucked into the side of most parts of the front end.

Front the side, the vehicle sports noticeable character lines, a pair of power-folding side mirrors, and a set of stylish 18-inch wheels. Its rear also boasts eye-catching LED taillights and a power tailgate for more user-friendliness. 

The E-QM5 is likewise available in three different subtle color options. The aforementioned includes black, silver, and beige. 

Loaded interior

Inside, the sedan boasts a well-arranged cabin rich with leather surfaces and a lot of creature comforts for both driver and passengers. 

For the one piloting the ride, the E-QM5 was kitted out with electronically adjustable and ventilated seats with four-way electronically adjustable lumbar support. Additionally, all seats are clad in supple leather. 

 

Keeping everyone inside the vehicle is an automatic air-conditioning (AC) system with rear vents. The said AC comes with a PM2.5 filter, which ensures air quality and freshness inside the cabin. 

The vehicle is also equipped with a total of seven technologies capable of reducing noise, vibrations, and harshness levels. The most notable of the said technologies are acoustic glass, a five-layer sound insulation structure, and a type of sound-absorbing fiber. 

Handling the navigation and entertainment needs of the Hongqi model’s occupants is a 10-inch infotainment screen. Smartphone connectivity is done through Bluetooth, while sound is outputted by a four-piece speaker system. 

Safety

Occupant safety for the E-QM5 is provided by what one would expect from a modern vehicle. It has anti-lock braking, ISOFIX child seat anchors, stability control, and traction control, among others.

The said features are also supported by multiple airbags, an uphill assist feature, a reverse camera, auto hold, a front collision warning system, driver fatigue monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. 

Powertrain

Propelling the Hongqi BEV is a 55-kilowatt-hour lithium-iron-phosphate battery and an electric motor. At maximum, the said system can churn out 187 horsepower. It also provides a New European Driving Cycle-indicate range of 431 kilometers. 

To note, the sedan model uses a front-wheel-drive format. It also has economy and comfort driving modes. 

Providing stability and ride comfort for the E-QM5 is a McPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension system. 

Pricing

The sole variant of the Philippine-spec Hongqi E-QM5 is set at P1.78 million. 

Final thoughts

The addition of the E-QM5 means buyers looking for a BEV in a sedan form have received another option. Yes, crossovers (including electric-powered ones) are the dominant body style at present, but it can be argued that some might like the sedan form factor of the Hongqi model. 

For those serious about getting the E-QM5, however, it is highly advised to see it in the metal first. Better yet, one could also visit the nearest Hongqi dealership and give the said model a test drive to get to know it a bit better. Doing so, after all, may lead to a more informed purchase in the end.
