What kind of Mustang are you?
There are very few cars that come by and are globally recognized by just the model name, without mention of the brand. To be immediately known by just one name is stardom at an elite level.
That is what the Mustang (excuse me, Ford Mustang) has achieved.
Created in 1964, the Mustang is now on its sixth generation and that includes the electric SUV, the Mustang Mach-E.
Locally, there are two variants: the top-of-the-line Mustang 5.0L V8 GT Premium and then the Mustang 2.3L EcoBoost Premium AT (automatic transmission).
We take a look at both trims to see what the Ford Mustang brought to play with in the Philippines.
Despite toning down the exterior down a tad, it still is a beast of a two-door coupe from any angle. The dual heat extractors have been redesigned and are more subtle and certainly slimmer. The bumper, fascia, and performance rear wing have been revised. The fastback roofline is still there, albeit much shorter than the previous generation.
Positioned lower is the hood, the grille and the new LED (light emitting diode) headlamps. Speaking of lighting, it now comes with an all-LED system – including the fog lamps and redesigned taillights.
It comes with new shock absorbers and innovative stabilizer bars, a MagneRide Damping System, and four-wheel vented disc brakes with anti-lock brake system (ABS). The front suspension is an independent double-ball joint MacPherson Strut with stabilizer bar while the rear comes with and independent integral link with stabilizer bar, an active grille shutter system, electronic line lock (for track use only), and a tire inflator and sealant kit.
Other exterior features include acoustic-laminate windshields, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and power windows with global open and one-touch-up/down feature.
Standard cabin appointments are a 12-inch color fully customizable digital instrument cluster, a Shaker Pro Audio system with 12 speakers and subwoofer plus HD radio technology, Sync3 with an eight-inch capacitive touchscreen with built-in navigation, ambient lighting with MyColor, Intelligent Access with Push-Button Start, auto-dimming rearview mirror, integrated rear head restraints, two 12V power outlets, illuminated door sill scuff plates, leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted cruise control switches, audio, and five-way controls, tilt and telescopic steering column, leather-wrapped shift knob and parking brake lever. The fastback body offers 50:50 split-fold rear seats.
Its safety package includes a personal safety system with dual-stage front airbags, knee and front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags (on the fastback body only), AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, individual tire pressure monitoring System, perimeter alarm, SecuriLock Passive Anti-Theft System, SOS post-crash alert system, LATCH (lower anchors and tether anchors for children), MyKey, an active anti-theft System, electronic-locking center console, electronic steering column lock, and wheels lock.
Along with the famed power of the Mustang comes great responsibility, and lucky for owners of the sixth-generation unit are driver-assist technologies that will make it easier to fulfill that responsibility. There’s pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, BLIS (blind spot information system) with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping system, active braking, auto lamp automatic on/off headlamps with wiper activation, rearview camera, and reverse sensing system.
On top of all of the above, each of the two Mustang variants come with their own exclusive equipment.
The 2.3L EcoBoost Premium AT gets a 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-four engine that puts out 310hp and 474Nm of torque and is paired to a 10-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, dual bright exhaust with rolled tips, and Recaro sport leather-trimmed front seats with manual adjustment. This is priced at P2.858 million.
For those who want to enhance the looks and performance of the 2.3L EcoBoost Premium AT, there’s a performance package that includes a 19-inch by nine-inch low-gloss ebony black-painted aluminum wheels paired to 255/40/R19 tires, larger brake rotors with four-piston front brake calipers, heavy-duty front springs, a larger radiator, larger rear stabilizer bar, K-member brace, 3.55 Torsen limited-slip rear axle, a gauge pack (including oil pressure and boost gauges), unique AdvanceTrac and anti-lock brake calibration, unique chassis tuning, and unique EPAS (electric power-assisted steering) calibration.
The P3.538-million Mustang 5.0L V8 GT Premium SelectShift AT Fastback gets a bigger 5.0L Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) V8 engine that puts out 460hp and 569Nm of torque. It can be paired with either a 10-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters or a six-speed manual transmission (convertible model only). It has an active valve performance exhaust system with four modes (Quiet, Normal, Sport, and Track), dual exhaust with quad tips, heated and cooled leather-trimmed seats with six-way power adjustment, three driver-seat memories, rear air diffuser, four-way adjustable front head restraints, and launch control (manual transmission only).
If you desire the GT Performance Package, you’ll get a 19-inch by nine-inch front and 19-inch by 9.5-inch rear ebony black-painted aluminum wheels paired to 255/40R19 front tires and 275/40R19 rear tires, Brembo six-piston front brake calipers with larger rotors, heavy-duty front springs, high-performance radiator, larger front and rear stabilizer bars, K-member brace, Torsen helical differential with 3.55 limited-slip rear axle (only for the automatic transmission), gauge pack (including oil pressure and vacuum gauges), unique AdvanceTrac and ABS calibration, unique chassis tuning, and unique EPAS calibration, and a Mangeride damping system.
The 2.3L EcoBoost AT comes in only four colors, Shadow Black, Oxford White, Magnetic Metallic, and Race Red. The 5.0L V8 GT Premium Fastback and Convertible gets those four plus Triple Yellow Tri-Coat, Orange Fury Metallic, and Kona Blue.
The Mustang 5.0L V8 GT Premium MT (manual transmission) Convertible is priced at P3.618 million and the Mustang 5.0L V8 GT Premium SelectShift AT Convertible goes for P3.718 million.
