Which Toyota SUV would you choose: Rush or Veloz?
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) touts the Rush and Veloz as subcompact SUVs that can seat seven. Despite their similarities, however, the Rush and Veloz play the SUV projection differently.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What are the variants and prices of the 2022 Toyota Rush?
The 2022 Rush is available in three trim levels (E MT, E AT, G AT), which retail from P983,000 to P1.1 million. What are the variants and prices of the 2022 Toyota Veloz?
Pricing for the all-new Veloz starts at P1.185 million for the Veloz 1.5 G and P1.225 million for the Veloz 1.5 V CVT.Perhaps the Rush wants to be a Fortuner when it grows up. The Rush features an imposing grille up front, sleek body lines on the sides, and vertical tail lights that are similar in shape to the midsize SUV's. Black body cladding and 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels follow the function of the SUV-like 220-millimeter ground clearance.
As for the Veloz, it's virtually an Avanza with added SUV-inspired styling. The Veloz's front end sports a grille that's seemingly nicked from the RAV4, sides that sport the Philippine-market-exclusive black overfenders, and a rear end centered by an LED light bar. Around the Veloz's 17-inch alloy rollers is a 190mm ground clearance.
Moving inside, the seven-seater cabin of the Rush is outfitted with a seven-inch infotainment screen, eight-speaker audio system, and an accessory socket for phone charging on each of the three rows. There are 13 cup holders inside this family-friendly Rush, too.
Inside the Veloz, the white and gloss black trim pieces, ambient lighting, and semi-leather seats lend classiness to the cabin. In terms of features, the Veloz adds two more speakers for a total of six, automatic climate control, and an inch-larger infotainment screen at nine inches.
But perhaps the biggest cabin highlight of the Veloz is its Long Sofa Mode rear seating configuration. In Long Sofa Mode, the second-row seatbacks fold back to meet the cushions of the third-row seats, creating a flat surface in which one can lay down or lounge on.
Aside from cossetting its occupants, the Rush and Veloz also want to take them safely along rougher-than-usual roads, too.
The rear-wheel drive Rush and front-wheel drive Veloz both pack vehicle stability and traction control, for in case the road gets slippery. When tackling inclines, these SUVs' hill-start control prevents them from backing into other cars or objects.
For safer journeys, the Rush and Veloz feature curtain shield airbags, seatbelt reminders, as well as reversing sensors. On top of these, the Veloz places its Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) arsenal.
Included in the TSS are all manner of advanced safety functions such as 360-degree camera, automatic high beam, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), pre-collision system, and lane departure warning.
Under their hoods, the Rush and Veloz share a 1.5-liter engine. For the former, the engine makes 102hp and 134Nm of torque, while the latter's mill makes 106hp and 138Nm. Depending on variant, the Rush pairs its engine with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. The Veloz is only available with a CVT.
And so the differences between the two SUVs continue, particularly in terms of their specs. Leaf through the spec sheets of the top-of-the-line Rush 1.5 G and Veloz 1.5 V below to see what we mean.
