Also new to the refreshed Nissan Leaf is the Intelligent Rear View Mirror, giving customers more security and confidence when driving. With this feature, a camera feeds imagery of the rear view to a screen placed where the mirror previously went.
This feature is included in the Leaf’s Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite of safety and convenience features — like the e-Pedal, an innovative technology that uses a one-pedal action for more convenient driving and braking, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning with Intelligent Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning with Intelligent Lane Intervention, and the Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection, among others.
In terms of specs, the updated Nissan Leaf retains its electric powertrain that produces a maximum output of 150ps and 320Nm of torque.
Based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standards, the 2022 Nissan Leaf's 40 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a range of up to 311 kilometers on a full charge. This is comparable to making a one-way out-of-town journey to Baguio or commuting twice a day for five days between Quezon City and Bonifacio Global City, Nissan calculated.
Drivers of the electric hatchback have a variety of charging options, making charging simple and convenient. With the included universal charging cable and a dedicated wall socket at home, the Leaf may be fully charged in 15 to 18 hours.
In several Nissan dealerships across the country, quick charging stations allow owners to fully charge their Nissan Leaf in as little as 40 to 60 minutes.
According to a Meralco test, the Leaf can be fully charged for just P363, which is the cost of two coffee shop drinks. According to Nissan Philippines, this reduces the running cost of the Nissan Leaf to roughly P1.17 per kilometer, which is less than half of the P2.08 per kilometer cost of a typical sedan with a petrol engine.
This EV can act as an electric power source with its vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology. V2X enables bi-directional charging to use energy from the Leaf battery to power homes and equipment, or simply give back energy to the power grid.
At the 10th Philippines Electric Vehicle Summit, Nissan Philippines also displayed the Kicks E-Power.
The E-Power comprises a 100% electric motor-driven system whose electric motor completely drives the wheels. In the Kicks, this e-motor gets its charge from a 2.13kW lithium-ion battery pack, which in turn, sources its juice from a 1.2-liter ICE acting as a generator.
The Nissan Kicks e-Power’s engine only switches on when necessary, like when it charges the battery to prevent it from going flat and when the e-motor needs a boost of power when the car travels uphill or doing overtaking maneuvers. The majority of the propulsion in less demanding situations and on flatter roads is taken care of by the electric motor.
Nissan Philippines also reinforced its Blue Switch initiative at the 10th PEVS through a commitment ceremony with its partners. Under the Blue Switch campaign, the brand aims to create key partnerships with various organizations to help address social concerns such as disaster response, climate change, responsible travel, and energy management with the use of electric vehicle technologies.
Among those present during the summit were Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Utilization Management Bureau Director, Patrick Aquino, Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) President, Edmund Araga, eSakay Incorporated Chief Operating Officer, Karl Magsuci, Gateway Group Executive Vice President, Michael Goho, PESIN President and CEO, Jojo Conde II, Gawad Kalinga Executive Director Luis Oquiñena, PDRF Executive Director, Veronica Gabaldon, and MAD Travels Co-Founder and Director, Rafael Dionisio.
These organizations have committed to support the Blue Switch initiative through various efforts ranging from public education, community action, and coalition-building.
"We are taking our vision to shape a safer and more resilient future for the Philippines through the Blue Switch campaign. We hope to address the needs and enrich the lives of Filipinos by leveraging the unique capabilities of electric vehicles for purposes beyond mobility," Juan Manuel Hoyos, President of Nissan Philippines, stated.
