11th PH EV Summit: EVAP highlights efforts for wider implementation of EVIDA

MANILA: The 11th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit, happening until tomorrow at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, focuses on how the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) leads in further pushing for the implementation of the provisions of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA).

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the policies under EVIDA?

EVIDA mandates private companies and government agencies to have electric vehicles of at least five percent of their fleet. It also allows EV owners to use the dedicated parking slots in public and private establishments, where there are EV chargers installed for more convenient charging.
  • What are the incentives for electric vehicles under EVIDA?

Under EVIDA, electric vehicles receive exemption from traffic coding schemes, priority registration, and faster processing of franchises for public transportation.

The law also grants incentives for EVs, such as exemption from traffic coding schemes, priority registration, and faster processing of franchises for public transportation.

According to EVAP President Edmund Araga, the Department of Energy is also working to accelerate the adoption of EVs nationwide under its Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry.

EVAP said that around 15,300 EV units are now being used in the country — 354 of which are electric motorcycles and 88 are electric buses. Meanwhile, as of November 2022, there are 900 EV charging units nationwide. According to the group, they are expecting that there will be over 6.6 million units of EVs available in the country by 2030.

The Department of Trade and Industry is also developing a national Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy to encourage more local businesses to use EVs. The Department of Transportation, on the other hand, concentrates on the public utility vehicle modernization program, with EVs as the preferred transportation units.
