15,373 units of Toyota Wigo detected with wiring issues

MANILA: Recalling cars over faulty parts is nothing new, but the way automakers deal with it is quite commendable. But if you are wondering why the issues happen at the first place, we would like to tell that any car is a complex combination of wiring, sensors, and electronics and small circuit failures are natural. Adding to this list is Toyota Philippines, who has recalled the small Wigo hatchback over the faulty wiring.

Toyota had discovered that a few units of the Wigo had a tube that protects the Wire No. 6 of the engine is very stiff. And since this wire is very stiff, the non-flexibility would lead it to break soon, which would cause loss of power.

Toyota has mentioned about the need for the recall of the Wigo hatchbacks according to the letter to the Undersecretary of the Consumer Protection Group of the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry which was dated on August 14. This was done to notify some of the present owners of the vehicle about the wiring problem that needed to be fixed on the engine.

Toyota claims that presently there are 15,373 units of the car that could have this problem. Precisely, the models that are affected with this faulty parts have been manufactured between 5th April and 15th December 2017.

The Toyota Wigo is powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine which can make a total power of 66 PS along with a peak torque of 89 Nm. For the transmission, the company provide options for a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic unit.

Presently, the Philippines-bound Wigo is manufactured in the company’s plant in Indonesia. It is one among the many derivatives like Perodua Axia, Daihatsu Ayla and the Toyota Agya. The fixing of the problem will be done without any cost.
