1,605 motorists nabbed for violating EDSA Busway rule: DOTr-SAICT

MANILA: The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr-SAICT) has apprehended a total of 1,605 vehicles in violation of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) Busway directive.

    MMDA EDSA Busway Strike Force

    Among these were 674 motorcycles, 500 private vehicles and/or public vehicles, 21 government units/ambulances and 410 unauthorized buses and/or trucks.

    In a report by Carmudi PhilippinesZigwheels Philippines’ sister platform — the EDSA Busway lane (on top of buses plying the route) is only accessible to the below vehicles:

    • Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-authorized buses, including bases with special permits and/or franchises to operate on the EDSA Busway route;
    • On-duty ambulances, firetrucks, and Philippine National Police vehicles; and
    • Service vehicles performing their duties for the EDSA Busway Project, including but not limited to construction, security, janitorial, and maintenance services within the EDSA Busway.

    Those in violation will receive stiff penalties, which range from P5,000-P30,000 plus recommendation to Land Transportation Office for revocation of driver’s license.
