The new operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport is New NAIA Infra Corporation. How many abandoned cars has the New NAIA Infra Corporation discovered at NAIA?
New NAIA Infra Corporation has discovered a total of 20 abandoned cars at NAIA.Per the NNIC, some of these vehicles have been left neglected by their respective owners since 2014. Due to the age of some of the cars, the corporation has considered some of them to be safety risks. Moreover, the said cars are taking up much-needed parking spaces passengers could use.
To encourage the owners of the abandoned cars to claim their rides, NNIC shared that it has waived any applicable fees. Furthermore, claimants merely need to show proof of vehicle ownership and valid identification.
After a grace period, however, unclaimed cars will be towed out of the NAIA parking facilities to be impounded by government agencies.
On the other hand, the SMC-owned entity has implied that the number of abandoned vehicles parked in its facilities could increase. It is, after all, currently conducting further audits across all NAIA terminals.
Relatedly, the NNIC has recently increased NAIA’s parking rates for the first time in a decade. The per-hour parking rate was bumped up from P40 to P50. The overnight rate for cars, meanwhile, was jacked up from P300 to P1,200.
The jump in overnight parking rates is equivalent to a 300 percent increase. NNIC, however, has justified the said decision as it may discourage non-travelers from utilizing NAIA facilities as long-term parking.
