2015 Frankfurt Motor Show: Nissan Reveals the Gripz concept
MANILA: Nissan finally made the debut of its much awaited Gripz concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The designers from Japan and Europe blended the exterior design into a practical and sporty looking car equipped with a hybrid power train. The designers intended to turn the car into a high performing beast. The exterior was designed in Europe and the cabin was wholly made in Japan.
Inspired from the Safari Rally-winning 240Z of the 1970s, the Gripz concept carries over the design elements from the popular Sway concept that debuted at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The front fascia gets the V-Motion grill mounted with Brand's logo and futuristic boomerang headlights.
The side profile of the concept features a kicked-up C-pillar with distinct 3-spoke 22-inch alloys and extended wheel arches gives it bold look. The front doors are classified as butterfly doors and the rear doors are named suicide door. The rear also holds boomerang-shaped sleek designed taillights along with a diffuser-integrated bumper. The dual exhausts and a black tailgate add an extra point to the design. Dimension-wise, the crossover concept measures 4,100mm long, 1,890mm wide and 1,500mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,580mm. Underneath the black-red toned exterior lies a lightweight carbon fiber frame inspired from modern racing bicycles.
The interior comes in an orange-gray theme which depicts true simplicity as per Nissan. Inspired by Tour De France, the cabin holds molded bucket seats, exposed tubes and door pulls that resemble saddles of a common racing bicycle. The steering wheel looks like the alloy wheels and even gets special graphics. Gripz concept also installs the 'Gliding Wing' instrument panel as found in the Sway concept. According to Nissan, this blends the simplicity and strength of the concept.
Gripz concept is a hybrid power train that is comprised of a gasoline engine and an electric motor that is capable of delivering smooth and linear acceleration. The output figures haven't been revealed yet. Company claims that the concept is more of a design statement rather than a replacement for the current model. Nissan has played well by giving the concept a unique crossover styling that makes it stand different.
