2017 Toyota Prius Prime: All You Need to Know
MANILA: Toyota has rightly delivered what it promised the world. The matter of concern of the present article is the all-new Prius that has been launched by the name Prius Prime at the 2016 New York International Auto Show. From days before its launch, Toyota started creating the much needed hype around its new hybrid kid by multiple teaser images and leaking information in bits and pieces.
At the day of its scheduled arrival, the car was presented its full glory, satisfying the minutes of wants of its onlookers. From its stylish exteriors to spacious interiors and not to forget its forte, the intelligent powertrain, Prius Prime immediately became the apple of everyone's eye at the 2016 New York International Auto Show.
With its New York centered launch, it is deemed that the car will first go on sale in the United States that currently houses of around 3 million hybrids. The new Prius will come as an addition to the existing Toyota hybrid lineup of Prius and Prius C. But this one has come as a complete revision over its existing family members. In addition to hybrid it also features plug-in capabilities, thus offering an additional all-electric mileage of 12.8 kmpl. So, now under the hood will be present a 1.8L Atkinson-cycle inline 4CYL mill and an 8.8kW electric battery. The said battery when running single handily can cover the maximum distance of 35 km with a top speed of 135 kmph. On the other hand, when working in collaboration with the 1.8L mill, Prius Prime can cover a whopping range of 965 km. Also, like its previous siblings, Prius Prime gives an impressive fuel economy of 51 kmpl.
If you are thinking that the plug-in version is only for machinal beautification and would take forever to charge then you are about to know a worthy fact. The Prius fitted electric motor which when connected to a 120V power outlet takes 5 hrs. 30 min to get full charge and under the availability of a 240V socket the charging reduces to more than half.
Talking about Prius Prime design language it looks that the car is inspired by Mirai (launched way back in 2014). All in all, you have a stylish looking car with some sharp and shroud features. Fully supporting our statement are its sleek LED headlamps, vertical with daytime running lights foglamps, sloppy roofline,extended L-shaped taillamps, rear lip spoiler and body colored shark fin antenna.
Sitting in the category of sub-compact cars the Prime version offers adequate leg and head room and has a seating capacity of four. On the amenities front, Toyota offers a never seen before rectangular 11.6-inch infotainment system that comes integrated with all the major apps, Entune audio system and navigation system. In addition to this, a multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control, engine start/stop function, parking sensor, an all leather wrapping, and much more are integrated in the car to give it a whole new experience to the occupants. The car comes with a 60:40 split feature giving it an edge in the storage front.
Safety is taken care by Toyota Safety Sense system that is a pack of some great safety features like pre-collision system with pedestrian alert, and adaptive cruise control.
At the show Toyota kept numb about Prius Prime price, but we are sure that with added amenities on all fronts its price range will surely take a hike.
