2019 Honda Accord: Top Features
Honda Cars Philippines recently launched a new version of one of its most popular vehicles, the 2019 Honda Accord. It’s the second-longest-running model from the Japanese automaker and is currently in its tenth generation. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the top features of this mid-sized sedan.
1. Updated exterior
One of the first things you’ll notice on the new Honda Accord is its new look. Rather than an extreme makeover, it received several tweaks throughout its body to complete a fresh new exterior.
It now has a wider body and more bulk upfront. The lined hood gives it a noticeable bump when viewed from the side. Honda also replaced the front grill with a more intimidating “Solid Wing Face” facade.
The rear end was redesigned to match the aggressive front. It features a slightly longer overhang and a more prominent trunk lip spoiler than its predecessor. C-shaped LED taillights similar to Honda Civic were also added on the back.
Shoulder lines that run across both sides of the vehicle go well with the lined hood, the bolder 5-spoke alloy wheels, and the wider wheelbase. The compact also has sleeker bumpers, two-toned outer rearview mirrors, a shark fin antenna, and dual exhaust outlets.
All in all, you get the same sophisticated elegance you would expect of a sedan. However, Honda updated the 2019 Accord and gave it a more athletic edge than older models, borrowing some of its design from the smaller Civic.
2. Earth Dreams powered turbo engine
It should be noted that the Hybrid variant - which features a more powerful 2.0L naturally-aspirated inline-4 engine, two electric motors, and up to 212 HP - will not be available in the Philippines. The Japanese brand is only releasing one variant of the 2019 Honda Accord locally, and that is the 1.5 EL Turbo CVT Honda Sensing.
With that said, the 1.5 EL Turbo still packs a punch. It is now equipped with a 1.5L Earth Dreams DOHC 16-Valve VTEC Turbo Engine similar to Honda Civic RS Turbo. It can provide a maximum power output of 190 HP and a peak torque of 260 Nm.
By comparison, the older model came with a 2.4L inline-4 cylinder i-VTEC engine under the hood. It could only deliver a max output of 175 HP and a peak torque of 226 Nm.
3. Improved fuel efficiency
The 2019 Honda Accord is more fuel-efficient than ever. Its upgraded engine boasts a fuel economy of 10 to 14 kmpl, which can vary based on road conditions.
4. Continuous Variable Transmission
Instead of the usual automatic transmission, you get Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) on the new Accord. CVT is a type of automatic transmission. But it’s more superior because it allows for a smoother drive and better fuel efficiency.
Drivers have the option to switch to the automatic transmission. The steering wheel has a built-in 5-speed AT control on its paddle shifters.
5. Smart infotainment system
Honda has made some obvious changes in the car interior. But what immediately caught our attention was the new floating screen on the center console.
The 8-inch infotainment panel has a full-color TFT display and a better resolution. It’s touchscreen-enabled, so you can easily find your way around with the tap of a finger.
The infotainment system includes two USB ports, an HDMI port, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity. It also has built-in navigation and the capacity to connect to iPhone and iPod devices.
Our favorite would have to be its smartphone mirroring capability - a feature that is usually found in smart TVs. The technology allows passengers to play videos and music without having to reach out to the screen.
The infotainment panel is also attached to 8 speakers, so no one misses out on the fun.
6. Executive cabin space
The Japanese carmaker has greatly improved the interior. From aesthetics all the way to comfort and functionality, the 2019 Honda Accord specs are a delight in every aspect.
It has an all-black interior that lives up to the “Executive Cabin Space” that Honda aimed for in the upgrade. The dashboard has a simpler layout but retains its elegance through its chrome and faux wooden accents.
The seats are leather, the same as before. Only this time, there’s a lower headroom and more leg space for passengers in the front and back. Combined with active noise cancellation and intelligent air conditioning, everyone gets to have a more comfortable ride.
There’s also a larger trunk in the latest version of Accord. You now get 573L of boot space instead of 450L.
7. Honda Sensing
The 1.5 EL Turbo CVT is integrated with Honda Sensing technology, which provides additional safety features to the vehicle. These include:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
- Low-speed Follow (LSF)
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
8. Advanced Compatibility Engineering
Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) is another noteworthy feature on the 2019 Honda Accord, safety-wise. In the event of a collision, it distributes the force of impact away from passengers and directs it to a specially-designed crumple zone.
The 2019 Honda Accord 1.5 EL Turbo CVT Honda Sensing will retail for P2.228M. Considering its sporty new look, revamped interior, powerful engine, and tech-laden features for fun and safety, we definitely think it’s worth the price.
