2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class - Top features
The A-Class is Mercedes-Benz offering that has a classy feel and snub effect that is perfect for young Filipino professionals who want style, comfort, and luxury. What makes the A-Class stand out from other more popular options in the market, besides the name brand, is how the interior and exterior are designed to maximize space and performance.
Despite it being a compact car and most affordable offering of Mercedes-Benz, the A-Class maintains its posh brand in this segment with great techs and awesome specs. And because there are so many things to love about the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, here are our top five favourites:
Cutting-edge instrument cluster
The top feature of the A-Class would have to be its merged infotainment system and control interface. Mercedes Benz was able to integrate the fully digital cockpit with the floating infotainment system placed above the AC vents so the screen stretches from the driver side to the length of the dashboard.
What’s great about the instrument cluster is it has customizable gauges and themes—each with its own array of information. It also comes with augmented reality tech that utilizes forward-facing cameras to help put the navigation directions directly on the road you are traveling. There is also a trackpad and a pair of touchpads on each spoke of the steering wheel in place of traditional command knobs and dials for a seamless less cluttered look.
Another awesome feature of the instrument cluster is the MBUX— Mercedes-Benz’ exclusive infotainment system. But what gets us so pumped about this feature is its ability to adapt to the driver based on artificial intelligence. The wide high-resolution, touchscreen infotainment system does what is usually expected of it—control functionalities of the car and provide navigation system.
But more than that, it has intelligent voice control that other car brands don’t have. it’s like having Siri with you to help you multitask while driving without having to take off your eyes on the road or remove your hands from the wheel. Instead, in this case, you get to call it “Mercedes.”
Tons of safety tech
Passive and active safety and driver-assist features are a must-have nowadays. Not only because it aids the driver to navigate on tough terrains and inclement weather, but it also helps reduce the risk of accidents as well. Some of the notable safety features of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class not usually found on other safety suites are:
- The semi-autonomous driving (under certain conditions). This system makes use of cameras, radar, and navigation data so the A-Class can predict if it needs to slow down when approaching intersections, making curves, and taking turns
- The vehicle-to-vehicle communication system that alerts other vehicles on the road when you are making an emergency break to let them know that they will need to slow down to avoid a collision
- The Presafe Plus feature can automatically close the windows, tighten seatbelts, and apply the brake if a rear-end collision happens to minimize passenger injury and damage to the car
- The active lane-keeping assist and active lane change assist that helps bring your car back in the center of the lane autonomously if you are drifting at speeds from 59 kmph to 200 kmph. While the lane-change assist feature provides stability so the A-Class does not sway from side to side while moving
- The Adaptive cruise control system that uses the route data to automatically change the car speed when making turns or approaching roundabouts
- The active brake assist and active emergency stop assist allows the car to automatically apply brake in emergency situations to minimize the impact on the event of a rear-end collision. The Pedestrian and bicyclist detection on this feature also allows the driver to avoid accidents by detecting hard-to-notice movements
Engine choice
Another top noteworthy highlight on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class specs sheet is its variety of engine which you can mix and match with you preferred transmission options. This Mercedez Benz car comes in both gasoline and diesel engine.
The gasoline engine comes in a 1.8-liter or a 2.0-liter inline 4-Cylinder while the diesel variant comes in 1.5-liter, 1.8-liter, and a 2.1-liter CDi engine that puts out 188 Hp of power and 300 Nm of peak torque can be mated to either of the four gearbox options: a 6-Speed MT, a 6-Speed MT with Longer Gear Ratios, a 7-Speed DCT, or an AMG 7-SpeedShift DCT.
Roomy interior for the size of a compact
Mercedes-Benz A-Class is not just a head-turner but has a luxurious cabin to boot. The high-end, ultra-modern interior boasts of premium leather seats that come standard to maintain that posh brand that is expected of a Mercedes vehicle.
The ergonomically design cabin streamlines the clutter to make driving a lot less straining and more interactive while passengers can enjoy the ride in comfort with power front seats and memory foam. The ambient lighting in the cabin also adds to the feel and ambiance inside the car and help sets the mood of your drive.
Value for money
Let’s face it, one of the things that people pay for a Mercedes Benz vehicle is the name brand. Not just because the name symbolizes elitism, but because the Mercedes Benz brand has been equated with luxury and durability. But besides the snub effect, you would be getting,
the value for money is there. You get reliability and comfort that you don’t usually get from the more affordable vehicles in this segment. Targeting the market of affluent yet savvy professionals, couples, and small family who doesn’t want to spend too much on luxury, the Mercedes Benz A-Class is a perfect fit for a family or work car that can take on the grind of city living.
