The times are of SUVs and crossovers, right? All the manufacturers are trying to set their foothold in the segment by either launching new models or by treating the customers with revisited offerings. But you simply cannot call the Nissan Patrol Royale just another SUV fighting it out with a bunch of competitors. The SUV belongs to a completely different league altogether.

Thanks to the reputation that the Japanese SUV has built over the years, most of the buyers of the Nissan Patrol Royale do not even look at the alternatives while making their decision. So, with all the great history and a proven track record, how does the 2019 Nissan Patrol Royale fair? Has it still got what it takes to be one of the best, if not the best, out there? Let’s find out in our first impression of the SUV.

Exterior

Just like it has always been, the 2019 Nissan Patrol Royale is, simply big. Standing at 5,165 mm long, 2,235 mm wide, and 1,955 mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,075, the Patrol Royale has it all to kill the so-called compact and subcompact SUVs and crossovers by its size only. Up front, the Japanese SUV icon boasts the Nissan’s signature V-motion grille that flanks the trapezoidal headlights. The front bumper incorporates the fog lamps in triangular housings on either side.

Moving on to the side profile of the Nissan Patrol Royale, while we won’t find many character lines or an extravagant shoulder line, the huge stance of the SUV along with its 20-inch alloys and roof rails is enough for an SUV devotee to fall for it. On to the rear end, the Patrol Royale features a rather minimalistic tailgate with wraparound taillamps on either side. There is also a tailgate-mounted spoiler for that added bit of sportiness.

Interior

2019 Nissan Patrol Royale Cabin

Once we hop inside the 2019 Nissan Patrol Royale, we are bombarded with space and luxury. The space inside this SUV is as much as a living room. Along with the ample space, the wooden trims all around the interior, and the leather seats provide the occupants with thorough luxury and peace of mind. Speaking of the equipment onboard,

the SUV gets a multifunction steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control system, tilt and slide one-touch open/close sunroof, BOSE premium audio with an eight-inch LCD with MP3, DVD, Tuner, and Bluetooth & iPod connectivity. Providing with some amazing audio is a 13-speaker system (speaker x 9, tweeter x 2, woofer x 2).

For the rear passengers, there are two seven-inch WVGA display monitors with the same number of headphones. The instrument cluster is still an analogue one even in 2019. However, there is a small-size MID that displays various information like fuel consumption, trip, total kilometres travelled, and much more.

Under the hood

The Nissan Patrol Royale houses under its hood a gasoline-fed 5.6-litre V8 that comes equipped with DOHC, CVTCS, Variable Valve Event & Lift (VVEL), and Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG). The 2019 Nissan Patrol Royal specs sheet reads 544 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 560 Nm. The ample power produced is then sent to the wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox that also has a manual shift mode.

Even with a weight of 2,750 kilograms, the Patrol Royal can do a 0-100 kmph run in no more than 6.6 seconds. The extreme comfort inside the SUV also comes courtesy of the independent double wishbone with Hydraulic Body Motion Control (HBMC) at work. Speaking of the braking, the stopping power comes from ventilated disc brakes at both front and rear. As a whole, the stuff under the hood of the 2019 Nissan Patrol Royale is as good as the amenities on the outside and the inside.

Safety

The 2019 Nissan Patrol Royale price of Php 3,888,000 already suggests that the SUV should be pretty safe, right? And yes, the Patrol Royale is probably as safe as your house thanks to the safety features like dual front, side, and curtain SRS airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA),

limited slip differential (LSD), vehicle dynamic control with B-LSD & hill descent control (HDC) & hill start assist (HSA), around view monitor (AVM) with moving object detection (MOD), corner sonar, parking guide, rear differential lock, anti-theft device with alarm, and engine immobilizer.

2019 Nissan Patrol Royale Airbags

Even after 68 years since its inception, the Nissan Patrol Royale still has its own flair. We absolutely love the SUV and are quite impressed with the stuff that it has on offer. While there might not be some of the trendy modern world features, but we don’t even use them on most of the occasions, do we? If you crave for a proper big SUV and have Php 3,888,000 in your pocket, the 2019 Nissan Patrol Royale is the four-wheel companion you want.
