2019 Suzuki Ciaz sedan unveiled with new fascia and bigger engine
MANILA: The Suzuki Ciaz sedan has received a mid-life update, which includes some cosmetic tweaks and a new bigger petrol engine. The car has been globally unveiled by the Japanese automaker’s Indian arm – Maruti Suzuki. Suzuki hasn’t yet unveiled an official launch timeline of the updated Ciaz for the Philippines market. However, we expect the same to arrive here by the end of this year.
On the outside, the 2019 Suzuki Ciaz gets some small yet noticeable design changes. Dimensionally, the updated model is identical to its predecessor, being 4,490 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width and 1,485 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,650 mm. Though sheet metal panels have been carried forward unchanged, the front fascia now adorns a more European look, thanks to sharper headlight assemblies, a new flatter grille, and a mildly tweaked bumper with LED fog lamps.
The headlights get LED projectors and daytime running lights (DRLs) on the higher variants. Meanwhile, the rear end features an updated tail lamp cluster with LED illumination and a revised bumper with new chrome accents on either side. The side profile remains largely unchanged, except the new set of 16-inch alloy wheels available on higher trim levels.
In the interior department, Suzuki designers haven’t tweaked anything significant. The sedan continues to be offered with a dual tone black and beige dashboard. The new model also comes with some faux wood inserts for added detailing. Additionally, the instrument cluster has been completely revamped to include a larger 4.2-inch coloured MID (multi-information display) screen. Features on offer include a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink, Navigation, rear view camera, parking sensors, cruise control, etc.
The new Suzuki Ciaz 2019 also gets a major update under the hood. The 1.4-litre petrol engine found in the pre-facelift version has been bid farewell to, thanks to a new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. This power plant is capable of churning out 105 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque, while being mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. This is the same engine that we have seen in the new-gen Suzuki Ertiga unveiled earlier this year. Additionally, the India-spec Ciaz also comes with a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine rated at 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque.
