All-new Hyundai Verna/Accent to get a turbocharged motor in India

MANILA: After giving Indians a glimpse of the all-new Verna, also known as Accent in the Philippines, Hyundai has confirmed that the facelifted sedan will now be up for grabs with a turbocharged engine as well. Also, a few more features of the upcoming turbocharged variant of the new Verna have been come out.

As reported by Autocar India, only the range-topping SX(O) variant of the all-new 2020 Hyundai Verna will get the turbocharged petrol-fed mill. Moreover, the powerhouse will come mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with paddle-shifters, and no manual gearbox will be on offer with the artificially-aspirated motor.

Even though it isn't known yet, the turbocharged motor under the hood of the 2020 Hyundai Verna is speculated to be the same 1.0 T-GDI unit that we have already seen on the Venue, which was launched in 2019. This engine generates 120 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 172 Nm, and we expect the same figures to be carried over to the new Verna aka Accent.

Other engine options on the 2020 Hyundai Verna will include 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, with transmission options comprising of a six-speed manual with both petrol & diesel mills, a CVT with the petrol, and a six-speed torque-convertor automatic for the diesel. Other features expected to make way to the new Verna are a large 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Hyundai's Blue Link connected car tech and Arkamys sound system, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, sunroof, hands-free boot opening, and digital-analogue instrument cluster incorporating a 4.2-inch colour TFT.

Once launched in India, the 2020 Hyundai Verna will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, upcoming Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, and others.
