2020 Mazda 2 revealed in Japan
MANILA: Remember the image of what most probably the accessories brochure that leaked a couple of days ago? Courtesy of the leaked image, the front fascia of the updated 2020 Mazda2 was partially revealed. And now, Mazda, the Japanese automaker has itself officially unveiled the 2020 Mazda2 hatchback.
A pair of slimmer than before adaptive LED headlamps, which then flank a revamped front grille, and an updated bumper all provide the 2020 Mazda2 with much-needed refreshment. Moreover, as we mentioned in our previous story, the updated front of the Mazda2 has very clearly taken inspiration from the Mazda3 and Mazda6 cars. Having a look at the side profile of the revisited Mazda2, while the cuts and creases remain the same, a new set of 16-inch alloy wheels does a lot of good to the overall appearance of the hatchback. A new pair of taillights along with a slightly updated rear bumper round of the visual changes on the 2020 Mazda2.
Hop inside the 2020 Mazda2 and you will be greeted with a new pair of restyled and restructured front seats, which now offer better comfort. Furthermore, the driver’s seat now also comes with powered adjustment settings and a memory function that remembers your favourite seating posture. Another upgrade comes in the form of an updated MZD Connect infotainment system, which now features both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is also an auto-dimming rearview mirror in the cabin on the new Mazda2.
The 2020 Mazda2 gets both gasoline and diesel fed engine options. Starting off with the gasoline-powered motor, it is the 1.5-litre SkyActiv-G inline-four mill that is capable of producing 108 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 139 Nm. The 1.5-litre engine can be coupled with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
Then there is the 1.8-litre SkyActiv-D turbo-diesel that churns out 115 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 270 Nm. A six-speed automatic is the only transmission options offered with the diesel-fed mill. For a more comfortable ride and improved fuel efficiency, the 2020 Mazda2 has been equipped with a new suspension setup and the i-Eloop regenerative braking system. Mazda has also bolstered the hatchback with adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function and lane-keep assist.
Should Mazda Philippines bring the 2020 Mazda2 to the Philippines? Hell yes, right? Let’s wait for the automaker to make an official announcement and hopefully bring the cute little hatchback to the country.
