2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE - Full details, specs, and more

For the past few months, the local luxury crossover market has been quite busy. First came the all-new Audi Q8 in February, and then the all-new BMW X5 followed it. And it was only a few weeks back that BMW Philippines took everyone by surprise with the launch of the flagship X7. Now, after approximately half-way in 2019, Mercedes-Benz Philippines has joined the party with the reveal of the 2020 GLE.

The 2020 GLE brings along a more prominent and sleeker design, all this along with a plethora of advanced features and technologies. The 4th-gen GLE with its sleek new looks, potent diesel engine, and an array of standard technologies has its eye set against other luxury marques.

Let’s now check the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE inside-out, starting with the design.

Exterior look and feel -

The 2020 GLE exterior as expected is a head-turner, it looks powerful yet sophisticated all at once. At the front, we have the classy LED headlamps they are mini work of art with unique light design and light color, similar to that of daylight. Customers can also opt for optional Multibeam LED headlights with an ultra range high beam. What’s even more impressive is the 84 individually controlled LEDs, they enable exact and quick adjustment of lights.

Further, giving the car more rugged looks are its massive 18- to 21-inch alloy wheels, running boards, and black cladding. The 2020 GLE benefits from the dynamism and purity of the muscular forms between the C-pillar and tailgate. The rear features new wraparound LED taillights, a rear skid plate, and trapezoid-shaped exhaust pipe finishers.

Compared to the previous-gen model, the car is slightly bigger. The wheelbase has gone up by 80 mm, which translates to more rear legroom and headroom - increased by 69 mm and 30 mm, respectively.

Aerodynamic clues -

When talking about the powerful and sporty Mercedes-Benz GLE, how one can not mention the aerodynamic front. Thanks to the car’s sleek body-shape the company claims it to have a better drag coefficient of 0.29 cd (best in the segment).

Impressive interior -

The 2020 GLE benefits from a spacious cabin that can comfortably accommodate seven passengers. However, it’s the car’s cabin elegance, style, and premium-ness that we want to talk about. The letter ‘G’ stands for the German word ‘Geländewagen’ - meaning off-road vehicle or cross country. The car is loaded with countless details, most striking solid grab handles on the centre console, angular air vents, and optional open-pore wood trim. All this and more give the cabin a unique, natural, and distinctive character.

Equipment on offer -

One of the most impressive pieces of design is the high-quality Widescreen Cockpit. It allows you to choose different display styles, arrange them to your preference and comes integrated with MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation. And all this is supported by two large 12.3-inch screens with high-quality glass panel.

The customer can style the new GLE as per their distinctive style, thanks to the exclusive ‘bicolor’ shades like espresso brown, magma grey, macchiato beige, or truffle brown. On offer is also trim choices in brushed aluminium with open-pore wood or metal structure. Ambient lighting with 64 colors is available as an optional feature. The AMG Line refines the cabin with AMG floor mats, sports seats, a sports steering, and sport pedals.

Other in-car standard amenities in the new GLE are - four-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, power-adjustable front and rear seats, Burmester surround sound system, heated / ventilated seats, front and rear parking sensors, power tailgate that opens via kicking motion, tire pressure monitoring, and Parktronic active parking assist with 360-degree around-view monitor.

Dynamic performance -
 

The Mercedes-Benz GLE is offered in the Philippines market in only one variant - the 300d turbo-diesel. Powering this fantastic SUV is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine that poops out 245 PS of maximum power along with a peak torque of 500 Nm at 1,600-2,400 rpm. The power is sent down to the wheels via a 9GT 9-speed automatic and 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

Enabling the car to offer an incredible driving experience is the new (but optional) E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL that combines the company’s most intelligent and innovative technologies.

Forward-thinking safety -

The Mercedes-Benz GLE comes with forward-thinking safety features that make it driving on an unfamiliar route or at night so much easier. The car comes with a host of airbags, keyless go with hands-free access, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, adaptive LED headlights, blind-spot assist, electronic stability and traction controls, and active brake assist.

Price point

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 300d comes with a special introductory price tag of Php 5,690,000.
