2020 Nissan Serena gets a facelift courtesy of Autotech
MANILA: Autotech just gave the 2020 Nissan Serena a bold makeover—not only on the interior and exterior front but in terms of safety technologies as well that comes as standard equipment.
The top-of-the-line Serena Highway Star model sports a bolder look with larger grille than the regular Serena. It features the brand’s latest V-motion grille that dominates the front façade with chrome edges that run through the headlamps with adaptive LED lights. The rear end of this best-selling minivan in Japan also gets an upgrade with unique LED taillights, chrome details, refreshed rear bumper, and redesigned trim elements. The new Serena Autotech can be dressed in eye-catching Sunrise Orange or Dark Metal Gray paint, both of which can be optioned with a Diamond Black roof for a two-tone effect. The Serena variant with the e-Power hybrid system also carries an exclusive 16” alloy wheels.
Changes in the interior were mainly focused on the instrumentation panel and seat fabric. The fascia was redesigned for ease of use. The flagship Serena model comes in waterproof two-tone leather seats, customizable to match the exterior color of the minivan. The seats can be reconfigured in several ways to fit bulky and irregular shaped items. The cargo space can be further increased by folding the third-row seat. The new 2020 Serena Autotech is also the first minivan from Nissan to get hands-free sliding side doors. It activates through a motion sensor by waving a foot under the door.
New intelligent safety technologies were also a highlight of the new Serena model. These include Adaptive LED Headlight system that detects vehicles via a forward-facing camera (each of the 12 LED lights can also be individually deactivated to help reduce brightness and glare for other drivers); Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication for when the driver presses the gas instead of the brake; Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention and Blind Spot Warning; Rear Cross Traffic Alert; Intelligent Emergency Braking; Road sign detection function; Lane departure warning; and Intelligent Lane Intervention.
The ProPilot semi-autonomous driving system also received some upgrades to offer smoother braking to respond in various road conditions and optimized speed control for an effortless drive. The new 2020 Nissan Serena Autotech still comes in a 2.0-L gasoline engine in FWD configuration and 2.0-L S-Hybrid which comes in both FWD and AWD.
An up-close look at the new Serena Autotech can be had when it debuts at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. Now if only we can convince Nissan to bring it back to the Philippines.
