2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S, Carrera 4S now available with manual transmission
Manila: Porsche officially announced that the new 992 generation of its 911 sports car will be available with a manual transmission.
Unlike other sports car that is now usually offered in automatic-only, Porsche its sticking to its tradition of a manual sports car. The 2020 Porsche 911 will be available in a seven-speed manual on the Carrera S, Carrera S Cabriolet, Carrera 4S, and Carrera 4S Cabriolet. The manual transmission comes at a no-cost option over the standard eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission or PDK in Porsche lingo. Expect to pay Php5.82M for a manual Carrera S and Php6.84M for a 4S Cabriolet including destination charge
But then again, you might be wondering, shouldn’t the manual transmission be cheaper than the automatic? Actually, it should, but Porsche has added some features as standard on all manual-transmission models. Most notable of all is the Porsche Sports Chrono Package that enhances the car’s performance.
This package usually costs an extra Php138,000. Enhancing features include dynamic drivetrain mounts, Porsche Suspension Management Sport Mode for stability control, a rev-matching functionality, and a steering-wheel-mounted driving mode switch.
In terms of performance, the manual is a tad slower than the PDK models. Carrera S with a manual can accelerate to 60 mph in “around four seconds” and reach a top speed of “over 190 mph.” The Carrera S with PDK, on the other hand, hits 6 mph in 3.5 seconds. While the Carrera S with PDK equipped with the Sport Chrono package, easily hits 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 191 mph.
Besides performance-enhancing features, the 2020 Porsche 911 manual models use a conventional limited-slip rear differential. This makes the manual option lighter by 84 pounds compared to the models with automatic transmissions.
Though there is no word yet if the base Carrera, Carrera Cabriolet or Carrera 4 models will have a manual transmission, Porsche did hint to that possibility. The 2020 Porsche 911 models with manual transmissions are currently available for pre-order.
