2020 Porsche Taycan 4S EV scheduled for release next year

MANILA: If the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S are not enough to make Elon Musk a wee-bit nervous, Porsche just unveiled the third variant of its famed EVs, the Taycan 4S at the Los Angeles Auto Show last Wednesday.

Since Porsche’s debut of the Taycan back in September, Porsche and Tesla have been going at it. Tesla CEO Elon Musk even made fun of Porsche’s choice of nameplate—a turbocharger that EVs don’t even have. But Porsche silently returned fire by releasing the 4S.

The “entry-level” Taycan 4S though not as quick or as powerful compared to the top of the line options, it is still quite impressive. The 4S comes with a standard 79.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can produce up to 522 Hp of power, can go from zero to 100 km in about 4 seconds, has a top speed of 250 kmph, with an estimated 400 km of range per charge. The other Taycan EVs boast of 93.4-kWh battery packs though there is an option of a Performance Battery Plus (same 93.4-kWh battery pack as the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S) for the 4S if you want more mileage.

The Taycan 4S that went on display last Wednesday was in an eye-catching Frozen Blue Metallic color and featured a set of 21-inch Taycan Exclusive Design Wheels complemented by Carbon Fiber Aeroblades. Inside is a fully-digital instrument cluster with an Apple Music app already integrated into the system.

The Taycan is slated for release sometime next year with a more affordable starting price of $103,800 as compared to the $150,000 and $185,000 price tag of the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S respectively but something that is too close for comfort for Tesla Model S entry-level price of $79,990. Conversely, The Model S also has a performance version that ups the price tag to a cool $100,000, keeping it in line with the latest Porsche EVs.
