2020 Suzuki Vitara - First impression
Suzuki has a good market share in the Philippines thanks to its wide range of value for money products spread across various segments like hatchback, sedan, MPV, etc. Suzuki Vitara is the brand’s only offering in the B-segment crossover segment and it has been here for quite some time now.
To keep things interesting for its customers and the Vitara name alive, Suzuki Philippines has recently launched the updated 2020 Vitara in the country. It isn’t a brand-new vehicle but a facelift that’s expected to work its charm to keep the numbers coming.
So what’s the new Suzuki Vitara all about? Let’s find out in our first impression.
Exterior
Since the 2020 Vitara is a facelift, it has to have some changes on the outside for that fresh look. At the front, Suzuki changed the grille. It is not bolder than before and looks quite attractive in all its chrome. Also, the long horizontal slats from have been replaced by multiple vertical slats that look pretty cool too.
Suzuki also changed the front fog lamp housings and made some parts of the front bumper black for a sportier stance. The front bumper also has some chrome garnishing.
The side profile of the new Vitara has been left untouched apart from the fact that it now has a set of new 16- and 17-in alloy wheels. Coming to the rear, Suzuki has tweaked the combination tail lamps. They are now a bit protruded outwards from the body and give a slightly upmarket feel. Overall, we can say that it is a decent facelift.
Interior
What are the key interior changes in the 2020 Suzuki Vitara?
Ans. Just like the outside, not much has been changed on the inside too. If you have been in a Vitara before, you will feel right at home.
Following are the changes that you will notice-
- New geometric-pattern seat upholstery
- 10.2-inch multimedia head unit
- Updated instrument cluster with a new 4.2-inch multi-information LCD
- New clock design
- Multifunctional steering wheel
- Automatic AC
- Front centre armrest
The touch screen system supports AM/FM radio, Aux, USB, Bluetooth along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, smartphone mirroring, navigation, and Wi-Fi hotspot. The rest of the cabin is unchanged and we are not complaining about it. It is a well-designed cabin.
Engine
2020 Suzuki Vitara specs remain unchanged when it comes to the engine. The new model continues to feature the same 1.6-litre engine that churns out 115 PS and 156 Nm of torque.
Engine type | M16A-type petrol engine |
Cylinders | 4 |
Displacement | 1586 cc |
Valves per cylinder | 4 |
Max power output | 115 hp @ 6000 rpm |
Max torque output | 156 Nm @ 4400 rpm |
Drive system | 2WD |
Transmission | 6-speed AT |
Both the variants - GL Plus AT and GLX AT - are powered by the same engine and transmission. There’s no manual here but you do get manual select via paddle shifters.
Safety features
This is another category which Suzuki didn’t wiggle at all. All the safety features that were available in the previous model have been carried forward in the same manner.
What were those safety features?
- Dual-front-curtain-side SRS airbags
- Anti-lock braking system
- Electronic brakeforce distribution
- Brake assist
- Vehicle stability control
- Vehicle traction control
- Hill hold assist
- Alarm with engine immobilizer
- ISOFIX child seat mounts
- Front & rear parking sensors
- Reverse camera
So that’s what’s new with the 2020 Suzuki Vitara. It is a small yet good update which should be appreciated and well received by the Filipinos. The 2020 Suzuki Vitara price starts at Php 1.04 million for the GL Plus AT variant and the top-end GLX AT costs Php 1.16 million.
