2020 Volkswagen Viloran is here, will take on the Toyota Alphard

MANILA: When you talk about luxury MPVs, the major contenders that come to our mind are the Toyota Alphard, Kia Grand Carnival, and some other vehicles. And, if we talk about Volkswagen's offering in the segment, there isn't one, especially following the move when Volkswagen Philippines started offering vehicles produced in conjunction with SAIC. Anyway, the times might soon change as Volkswagen has unveiled its largest car in the lineup in the form of a luxury MPV, the 2020 Viloran.

Standing at 5.3 meters long, the 2020 Volkswagen Viloran is one large MPV with loads of luxury contingent both inside and outside of it. Despite being a large vehicle, as large as a pickup truck, the 2020 Volkswagen Viloran packs some attractive looks thanks to the large chrome grille which incorporates the LED headlamps, chrome slats in the lower part of the front bumper, chrome window garnish, chunky 15-spoke alloy wheels, long hood, and much more. Get inside and outside of the MPV is also no tough task as VW has installed sliding doors for the passengers.

While not much is known of the interior yet, the 2020 Volkswagen Viloran sports ottoman seats, 2-2-3 seating configuration, and powered captain seats even in the second row. Moving on to the mechanical bits and pieces, under the hood of the 2020 Volkswagen Viloran is a 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline-fed motor that produces 223 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 340 Nm. The power is then channelled to the wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In case you're busy wondering, yes, this is the same mill that we have seen powering the VW Golf GTI, albeit in a different state of tune.

As we mentioned earlier, Volkswagen Philippines sells SAIC-VW produced models in the country, and that might just pave the way for the luxury MPV to land on the Filipino shores. Just in case the arrival of the 2020 Volkswagen Viloran in the Philippine transpires, vehicles like the Toyota Alphard, Kia Gand Carnival, and others will be under great threat.
