2023 Volkswagen ID.7 electric sedan to debut at CES 2023

MANILA:The 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 — the Volkswagen Group of America's first fully electric sedan built on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) architecture — will make its world debut at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas from January 5 to 8, 2023.

Smart camouflage will cover the 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 using advanced technology and many layers of paint to produce light effects on various elements of the car. This interactive element represents the newest development in the ID. family's upcoming flagship model's digitalization.

A preview of the new model, which reflects an aerodynamic design idea and has a range of up to 700 kilometers, was already given by the Volkswagen ID. Aero concept car, which was first unveiled in China. The largest electronics trade show in the world, CES, will welcome back Volkswagen Group of America with a very special product after the carmaker’s six-year hiatus.

“With the new ID.7, we are extending our electric model range into the upper segments. The sedan will offer top-class technology and quality. With its latest model based on the MEB, Volkwagen has responded to customer feedback and improved the user experience in the relevant areas. A host of innovations come as standard in the 2023 Volkswagen ID.7:

• The new display concept.
• The augmented reality head-up display.
• A 15-inch screen with new air conditioning controls integrated into the first level of the infotainment system.
• Illuminated touch sliders.

The innovative air conditioning design with clever vents has several features. For instance, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 may recognize an approaching driver using their key and will begin to cool or heat the interior of the car before the driver ever enters the vehicle on a hot summer day or a chilly winter day.

Newly created "Smart Air Vents" regulate airflow and move dynamically to quickly disperse air over wide surfaces. If there are passengers in the vehicle, the air can either be sent directly to the body or used to indirectly ventilate the interior.

These functions are visible at all times on the new large display and can be activated and saved individually for each user. Special requests can be activated using voice commands. If the user says “Hello Volkswagen, my hands are cold!”, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 responds by starting the steering wheel heating function. At the same time, warm air is directed towards the hands.

Volkswagen will demonstrate the ID.7's intelligence in a very unique way at the CES in Las Vegas. The camouflaged car has a digital design and distinctive painting that interactively illuminates the ID.7. There are forty layers of paint, some of which are conductive and some of which are insulating. Twenty-two distinct regions of the car can be independently controlled and are illuminated by electroluminescence beneath the top coat of paint. If any of this is coupled with a sound system, the beat is made visible through the illumination of specific spaces.

QR codes on the hood and on both sides of the car provide an interface between the physical and digital spaces. The entire camouflage also takes the QR code theme further and also makes subtle the contours of the final production vehicle.

The 2023 Volkswagen ID.7 adheres to the fully electric ID. model family's design language in terms of appearance. The aerodynamic front portion and roof, which both contribute to lower energy consumption and extend range, are distinguishing characteristics of the sedan. The air coming through the front-end air intakes is directed specifically to the rear of the car by the sides of the vehicle.

As a result, the lines create an air curtain that slows the airflow along the sides of the car. The ID.7's excellent drag coefficient is a result of the roof's rearward slope. The maximum range is about 700 kilometers.

The Volkswagen ID.7 is based on the Volkswagen Group's MEB, just like the other models in the ID. family. The reduced overhangs and lengthy wheelbase (2.97 meters) of the modular matrix have advantages for the interior. This gives the ID.7 the appearance and feel of a premium sedan that is unusually roomy.
