The 2024 Porsche Cayenne makes its world premiere today, April 18, 2023, at the Auto Shanghai show in China.Porsche is debuting a revolutionary display and control concept with the new Porsche Cayenne. The Porsche Driver Experience features a fully digital display, versatile individualization, and easy operation. The driver's axle is the focal point. The most essential controls surround the steering wheel. This results in a new, more intense driving experience.
The premium cockpit is equipped with elements first seen in the Taycan electric sports car. The new Porsche Cayenne features a modern steering wheel, a revamped center console, and a digital instrument cluster with so-called curved and free-standing design with changeable display options.
The instrument cluster is now a 12.6-inch curved, fully digital, free-standing display without a hood cover, giving it a contemporary, sleek look. The driver can select from up to seven views on the instrument cluster, depending on the equipment level.
The driver can choose to have the rev counter, online navigation, Night Vision Assist, or 3D driving assistance system in the foreground. There are additional options for a greatly reduced view and a classic mode, the latter of which upgrades the traditional Porsche five-tube instrument cluster design for the digital era.
The skillful balancing of digital and analog elements is a vital component of the new Porsche Driver Experience. The steering wheel is surrounded by all the controls essential to driving. The gear selector is now located between the instrument cluster and the central display to the right of the steering wheel. This frees up space on the center console for a new, large, analog air-conditioning control panel and more storage room. The redesigned control lever for the driver assistance systems has also been mounted directly on the steering wheel.
The new multifunction sports steering wheel, which is based on the Porsche 911, has undergone a complete redesign, featuring a premium, contemporary, and sporty look. A driving mode switch on the steering wheel that allows the driver to choose between Normal, Offroad, Sport, and Sport Plus modes is now standard. The new toggle button for choosing the functions and designs in the instrument cluster is situated right on the steering wheel, as well as the controls for the optional head-up display.
The air-conditioning control panel on the center console has a glass surface and a black panel design that gives it a particularly premium appearance. The neatly laid out control surface makes it easy to adjust the air conditioning. The combination of touch recognition and haptic feedback with mechanical air-conditioning switches as well as a physical volume controller provides functionality that is both haptically and aesthetically pleasing.
Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is controlled through the central 12.3-inch high-resolution display. In addition to the standard online navigation and multimedia functions, the driver may also control a number of driving and comfort functions at the central display. The optional 10.9-inch passenger display is a completely new feature in the Porsche Cayenne. With the additional touchscreen, the front passenger can relieve the driver of some tasks, including controlling the navigation or choosing a media service. The display cannot be seen from the driver's seat due to a special foil. This allows the passenger to stream videos without the driver being distracted.
The interior of the Porsche Cayenne reflects that it is the sportiest vehicle in its class. A sporty ambience is accompanied by dynamic functionality, luxurious comfort, and distinctive Cayenne design elements. Porsche uses a simple design that emphasizes width to introduce the new control concept in the new Porsche Cayenne. Major redesigns were applied on the upper portion of the inside of the door, the center console, and the entire instrument panel. The dashboard's enhanced horizontal emphasis gives the impression that the interior is considerably wider. The elegantly designed air vents are vertically aligned in the traditional Cayenne manner. All of the air outlets in the cockpit were designed without louvres for the first time.
Porsche has further enhanced connectivity in the new Porsche Cayenne. Standard features include a cooled smartphone storage space with an inductive charging function. The cooling enables up to 15 watts of optimized charging power. New ways of interaction are made possible by the extended integration of online services, including using Siri to control vehicle functions.
Other additions include two USB-C ports in the front storage space and two more in the rear area of the center console. Every USB port has a fast charging function. The front ones link the smartphone to PCM as well. All the driver needs to do to connect a smartphone to the vehicle is scan the QR code that is shown on the PCM. This gives access to a variety of connectivity features, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as built-in apps like Spotify and Apple Music.
Through the new In-Car Video feature, videos may be streamed directly in the PCM via the streaming provider Screenhits TV, both on the passenger display while driving and on the central display while the vehicle is parked.
