9th PIMS: Jaime Bautista pushes for CAMPI-DOTr cooperation
Transport secretary wants to work with CAMPI to tackle road safety, traffic, and sustainable mobility
MANILA: The 9th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) kicked off with a call for cooperation between the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated (CAMPI), and the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The aforementioned was shared with the public through a speech by DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista at the formal opening of the biennial automotive event.
“I am glad to meet representatives of the country’s biggest auto manufacturers and distributors who get to show off the latest models of their vehicles equipped with cutting-edge technologies. I commend CAMPI for what they are trying to do here: to unite the motoring industry towards building a sustainable future,” Bautista said.
“Also commendable is your association’s record of achieving 70 percent of the whole year’s target after three quarters. Against this notable sales performance, allow me to impart pressing messages from the perspective of the DOTr,” Bautista added.
First, the DOTr secretary encouraged CAMPI to pursue alternative mobility initiatives alongside government programs. The executive included instances of electric-powered public transport and the proliferation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
“Electric vehicle is on the top of my list of advocacies that I hope CAMPI will support with equal passion,” Bautista shared.
He also likewise shared the need for CAMPI to work with DOTr with regard to the push towards road safety, driver’s education, advanced safety technologies, and defensive driving.
Additionally, Bautista has asked for support from the PIMS organizer to tackle the ever-present issue of worsening traffic in Metro Manila.
After his speech, the government executive took a tour through the car brand's booths together with CAMPI officials and members of the motoring media.
As mentioned above, the biennial car show event is one of CAMPI’s premier car events. The aforementioned 2024 edition of the show, which spans from October 24-27, 2024, has opened up with numerous car brands poised to launch new models, showcase current offerings, and unveil concept cars.
A section of the PIMS grounds at the Word Trade Center in Pasay City is also host to several test drive opportunities from participating brands. Another section, meanwhile, is dedicated to several aftermarket goods, car-related collectibles and memorabilia, and aftermarket services.
