KEY TAKEAWAYS
What powers the Thai market Toyota Camry?
The Thai market Toyota Camrfy is powered by a 2.5-liter hybrid engine that makes a total of 227 horses. What other vehicles did Toyota display at PIMS 2024?
Toyota also showcased the Kayoibako concept, bZ4X electric vehicle, and next-generation Tamaraw at PIMS 2024.Launched in Thailand not too long ago, the midsize executive car appears to be poised for a local roll out anytime soon.
And while we wait for the official Philippine release of the new Toyota Camry, here is a quick look at the specifications of the Thai market model — which will most likely be what we will get here in the country.
More powerful hybrid engine
Under the hood of the new Toyota Camry is a 2.5-liter hybrid engine paired with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The said setup makes a total of 227 horsepower (hp), with the internal combustion engine (ICE) producing around 183 horses and the electric motor (alternating current synchronous, permanent magnet) making approximately 134 hp.
In terms of torque, the new Toyota Camry’s ICE produces 221 Newton-meters (Nm) while the electric motor contributes 208 Nm of pulling torque.
For comparison’s sake, the current locally available Toyota Camry — while fitted with a similarly-sized engine (2.5 liters) gets 175 hp from its ICE and 118 hp from its electric motor. It also has a conventional CVT instead of an electronically regulated unit.
Updated appointments
Like the Thai model, the new Toyota Camry previewed at the bi-annual motoring event sported an updated look — with the fascia donning Prius-like headlamps and a more seamless grille with subtle honeycomb elements on the sides of the latticework.
It also packed similar two-tone wheels and a side profile that get a mix of linear and athletic bodylines. The sculpted rear also adds a dash of sportiness that do not look out of place on the luxury sedan.
The cabin is slapped with leather appointments, which come in the form of leather trims on the dashboard, leather finishing on the steering wheel, and leather upholstery on its seats. Featured is a 12.3-inch thin-film transistor multi-information screen with a head-up display complemented by a 12.3-inch infotainment unit with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, which sends crisp audio to a set of nine JBL-branded speakers.
