GR Supra 2.0L trim and Fuji Speedway edition land in Europe
MANILA: Ever since its inception in early 2019, the Toyota GR Supra has been one of more talked about and sought after sports cars in the global automobile arena. The Japanese icon made a come back following a 17-year break, and the return has been nothing short of a big bang. For starters, the first production model went for USD 2.1 million, and the GR Supra RZ even made it to the PS4. Moreover, aftermarket custom shops like Akrapovic and others have already mastered the art of the Supra, and have rolled out various products like a full system exhaust, power increase mod that enables the Supra to produce another 85 hp, and even a manual gearbox courtesy of European Auto Group from Texas.
Getting back to today's story, the Toyota GR Supra is, once again, in the headlines as the Japanese automaker releases another regular model and a special edition of the sports car for the European masses. The new model houses a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine and at 1,395kg, it is 100kg lighter when compared with the standard model that is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharged inline-six motor. The gearbox here is a ZF 8HP51 eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels. A 0 to 100 kmph takes no more than 5.2 seconds and the sports car releases 172 g/km on the WLTP test cycle. As per the NEDC cycle, the 2.0-litre Supra is said to return a fuel mileage of 15.87 kmpl. The braking setup on the new model comprises of 330 mm ventilated discs with floating callipers both at the front and the rear. Choose the Sports pack and the brakes are replaced by 348 mm front rotors with four-pot fixed callipers at the front and 345 mm rotors at the rear. The Sports pack also equips the car with active rear differential and an adaptive suspension.
Furthermore, the standard equipment also includes black Alcantara sports seats, 18-inch alloys, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a four-speaker audio system. If the customer avails the Premium pack, the Supra is then bolstered by the likes of a wireless smartphone charger, black leather upholstery, electrical seat adjustment with memory setting, head-up display, and a 12-speaker JBL premium sound system.
Along with the basic safety features like multiple SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, and others, the new model also gets Pedestrian and Cyclist detection with Braking Function, Lane Keep Assist [LKA> with Active Steering, Road Sign Assist, Intelligent Speed Assist, and Pre-Crash Safety with Braking Function. As we mentioned before, Toyota has also uncovered the Supra Fuji Speedway limited edition model in Europe.
