A turbo on the next-gen Honda Jazz?
MANILA: The next-generation Honda might as well join the league of small cars with turbo engines. The Honda Civic was the first from the Japanese automaker to feature a turbocharged motor, followed by the CR-V. And now the Accord also has a 1.5-litre turbocharged option. It might not be too far before we see a turbocharged Jazz now.
The L-series motors have been used in the Jazz since 2001. With tweaks every few years, the same engines have had to bear the load. The next-gen Jazz is expected to borrow its new powerhouse from the European Civic. The 1.0-litre 3-pot turbocharged mill from the Civic might make its way to the next-gen smaller Jazz.
This 1.0-litre motor is equipped with dual overhead cams and also comes with the Earth Dreams Technology. The power figures read 129 PS of max power and a peak torque of 200 Nm. Compared to this, the current ASEAN Jazz features a 1.5-litre mill that makes 120 PS of max power and 145 Nm of peak torque.
Even with the turbocharged mill coming to the Jazz, the old 1.5-litre motor might still continue featuring on the lower variants of the hatch. And the turbocharged engine might remain exclusive to the top trims. Honda City, which bestows its platform with the Jazz, might also be getting its fair share. The widely popular sedan might also come out with a turbo mill along with the Jazz.
