The facility comes with seven charging points. What makes U.P. Town Center a ideal location to put up an EV charging station?
U.P Town Center is a prime location for an EV charging hub as it is near universities, has high foot traffic and is accessible to private and public utility vehicles.Located along Katipunan Avenue, the U.P. Town Center charging hub is near universities like the University of the Philippines (U.P.), Ateneo de Manila University, and Miriam College — making it easily accessible to students, faculty, and commuters.
The station features six vehicle slots with one 120-kilowatt (kW) DC fast charger and four AC chargers, two 22 kW and two 7 kW. The said setup, ACMobility noted, reflects its commitment to make EV charging accessible to everyone — be if for private or public transport.
It also serves as a prime location with high foot traffic, which could help drive EV adoption and promote sustainable transportation for private and public users.
In a statement, the Ayala-led charging solutions provider said that the facility is placed in one of the few cities in Metro Manila actively committed to sustainability — serving as a prime location to demonstrate how electric mobility can transform urban communities.
“We are thrilled to deepen our commitment to sustainability by expanding our network in a pivotal location like U.P. Town Center, which serves as a bustling hub for many Filipinos – from students, professionals, and the commuting public — right at the heart of Quezon City,” ACMobility Chief Executive Officer Jaime Alfonso Zobel de Ayala was quoted as saying.
“With the growing adoption of electric vehicles in the Philippines, we aim to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for everyone. This station is another milestone in our mission to scale the country’s charging infrastructure, helping to accelerate the transition to cleaner and greener mobility options,” he added.
Per ACMobility, the U.P. Town Center Charging Hub is its first collaboration with Meralco. The aforementioned partnership boosts the rollout of more charging stations in strategic locations.
Emphasizing the message of sustainability, the said facility features a mural created by Professor Toym Imao and students from the U.P. College of Fine Arts.
Embodying the battle cry “charging forward,” the centerpiece showcases the spirit of progress and innovation while celebrating Katipunan Avenue's vibrant stories and history.
Expansion plans
The new charging is part of ACMobility’s goal to establish more than 200 charging points in around 100 locations around the country by the end of the year.
“Quezon City stands out as one of the few Metro Manila cities actively championing sustainability, from implementing solar power at City Hall to supporting the transition to electrified mobility,” ACMobility Head of Mobility Infrastructure Carla Buencamino stated.
“We are proud to work with Quezon City to make electric mobility accessible to more people and to contribute to cleaner transport solutions for the city.”
