Adrian Newey to join Aston Martin F1 team in 2025

MANILA: Adrian Martin Newey will officially join the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team in March 2025. 

The veteran car engineer and aerodynamicist will become the team’s new managing technical partner. He will likewise take the lead in the Silverstone-headquartered Formula One (F1) team’s vehicle development for the 2026 race season and will be a team shareholder as well. 

Newey, for those unaware, is the current chief technical officer of the Red Bull Racing Formula Team and is one of the talents behind the said team’s dominance in recent seasons. His stint in Formula One, however, started all the way back in 1988 with Leyton House Racing, followed by McLaren from 1997-2005, and at Red Bull beginning in 2006. 

To note, Newey has aided various F1 teams to a total of 25 World Titles, six of which are F1 Constructor’s Championships with Red Bull Racing. He was likewise involved in a 24 Hours of Le Mans victory with AF Corse in 2007.

Per Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team’s owner and Aston Martin Executive Chairman Lawrence Stroll, bringing Newey on board is a huge milestone for the motorsports group. 

“This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does - he is at the top of his game - and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. It’s the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport and another demonstration of our ambition to build a Formula One team capable of fighting for world championships,” Stroll said. 

Newey, on the other hand, expressed his excitement in meeting new challenges with the Aston Martin F1 team. He likewise professed Stroll’s determination to shape the team into a world champion contender. 

“I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with,” Newey said. 

“Lawrence is determined to create a world-beating team. He is the only majority team owner who is actively engaged in the sport. His commitment is demonstrated in the development of the new ARM Technology Campus and wind tunnel in Silverstone, which are not only state of the art but have a layout that creates a great environment to work in,” Newey added. 

For those who don’t want to miss more upcoming F1 action this season, be aware that the Singapore Grand Prix will be held on September 22, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. (Manila time). The current season’s top three drivers are Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, followed by McLaren Racing Limited’s Lando Norris, and Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
