The Australia-spec bZ4X is being developed with insights gained from producing over 20 million batteries since the mid-1990s, the majority of which have been used in hybrid electric vehicles.
According to Toyota Australia Vice President for Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley, the bZ4X batteries offer exceptional performance, safety, and dependability.
“Before they are ever fitted to a car, each of the bZ4X batteries undergoes extensive testing – a vital process for confirming battery performance and reliability,” Hanley stated.
The bZ4X that will be sold in Australia features a revised system that automatically switches to Auto (Eco) mode to reduce the amount of power drawn from the battery and help increase the driving range.
The remaining range and the estimated time needed to recharge the battery to 80 percent are indicated on the seven-inch multi-information display.
There are two powertrain setups for the Australia-spec bZ4X – single-motor front-wheel drive (FWD) and a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD). Both come with a 71.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery with an 11-kilowatt (kW) AC and 150-kW DC charging capacity.
The bZ4X also comes standard with LED lights, 20-inch alloy wheels, sports seats with premium fabric and synthetic leather trim, and heated front seats with power adjustment for the driver.
Meanwhile, comfort and convenience features include dual-zone climate control, keyless smart entry and start, a 12.3-inch multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, and an extensive suite of Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance features.
Among the AWD-exclusive features are roof rails and spoiler, fixed panoramic roof, heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats, full synthetic leather trim, wireless phone charger, JBL premium audio system, and X-Mode off-tarmac drive system with Snow/Dirt, Deep Snow/Mud, and Grip Control modes.
More information on the Australia-spec bZ4X will be released by Toyota on the launch date.
