All-new Geely Azkarra sneak peek today, public launch on May 30

MANILA: Eager for the public to preview their second crossover offering in the country, Geely Philippines, has given the media a sneak peek at their all-new compact crossover, the Azkarra.

Distributed exclusively in the country by Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the Azkarra is slightly bigger than the subcompact crossover Coolray, which was launched in September 2019.

It comes with high expectations after the design team labored to give it “luxury brand level technology” in order for it to “redefine its segment in terms of technology, design, and engineering.”

“After listening to consumer feedback, we also wanted the user to have easier access to Azkarra’s technology and storage spaces by further refining our interior design. The previous generations of Azkarra were already praised by its users for its performance and technology. When it was first launched, it was given the nickname ‘the most beautiful SUV in China’ — with such high praise we knew we had to work harder on the second and third generations,” said Geely Design China’s Vice President and General Manager Guy Burgoyne.

The top trim will offer a mild hybrid technology that takes regenerative energy from braking to power a 48-volt belt-starter generator (BSG) with a 48V-12 DCDC converter, 48V lithium-ion battery module, and battery management system (BMS). The additional power is designed to complement the turbocharged engine and not to run the vehicle on pure electric power.

“Right now, we see that the auto industry is gearing towards hybrid and electric vehicle technology as it becomes increasingly popular,” said SGAP President and CEO Mikihisa Takayama.

All two models of Geely will come with CN95 filters designed to effectively filter out dust, harmful gases, particulate matter (PM) 2.5 particles, droplets with diameters larger than .74 microns.

The all-new Azkarra will offer one engine option, a turbocharged 1.5L gasoline engine, in two trims:

         Premium     P1.438 million (FWD)

         Luxury        P1.598 million (AWD and with 48V EMS)
