All-new Geely Emgrand marks brand's entry into PH sedan market

MANILA: Local Geely distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corporation (SGAP) has unveiled the 2022 Emgrand, the brand’s fourth model since its relaunch in the country in 2019. The Emgrand is Geely’s first and newest sedan in the country, and it is designed to inspire more Filipinos to “Be Driven” in life.

“The Geely Emgrand aims to continue what we have begun from our young brand. We have heard and listened to our customers and this gave us the confidence to bring in a sedan for the Filipino market. Now, we are offering a sedan that will inspire you to elevate your life, be driven and provide you a more worthy vehicle for your daily mobility need,” SGAP President and CEO Yosuke Nishi stated.

The Emgrand is based on the B-segment Modular Architecture created by the Geely Auto Group. This platform is also utilized for the Coolray, and it is meant to exceed any five-star NCAP rating criteria. The Emgrand is also anticipated to have improved dependability and longevity due to BMA’s more than five million kilometers of test mileage. It also takes advantage of BMA’s wide body to achieve more space and improve riding comfort, control, and stability.

The Emgrand is powered by a 1.5-liter dual continuous variable valve timing, normally aspirated engine that generates 102hp and 142Nm of torque. The engine is lightweight, thanks to its all-aluminum alloy cylinder block. It is supported by a timing chain for low maintenance and a long lifespan. It is coupled to an eight-speed CVT that enables greater acceleration, reduced shift shocks, and responsive operation.

The wide body, low-lying style of the B-segment sedan was developed on the new generation of fashion based on the concept of “polar light and shadow aesthetics.” The new “Energy Pulse” radiator grille has been selected by Geely designers to complement the sedan’s luxury character. The Emgrand also comes with projector LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights with welcome lights and a “follow me home” feature. It also includes an auto-on feature that turns on the headlights when the driving conditions become dimmer. Sharp rhythmic taillights provide extra accent in the car’s rear. The rear combination lamps come with 190 LED bulbs that project three different light patterns when the car is locked or unlocked.

The seats on the inside are made of memory foam with a combination of light premium suede and eco-friendly imitation leather. Instead of hard plastic, the dashboard and door panels are made of plush and soft cladding materials. The steering wheel is coated in constant-temperature leather material to ensure that it does not get hot even if the car is exposed under direct sunlight. The Emgrand ensures a delightful trip for all passengers, with ample seating and headroom to comfortably accommodate three adults. There are also plenty of storage spaces, including a trunk that can hold 500 liters of cargo. Furthermore, NVH is reduced to a minimum, which is said to be even lower than luxury European brands, resulting in a calmer and more comfortable ride.

The Emgrand also comes with a one-of-a-kind Intelligent Scene Air-conditioning System that helps in deodorizing and keeps the air fresh at all times. This is especially useful when entering the car after being exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time, not using the car for a long time, or just starting the car in the morning after stuffed air has been trapped overnight. The air-conditioning system also includes a CN95 filter, which guarantees that the air entering the cabin is free from viruses and bacteria.

The Emgrand also comes with a slew of safety features including ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, traction control, hill hold control, electronic parking brake with autohold, six airbags, three ultra-sonic reversing radars, high-definition wide angle reverse camera, real-time temperature and pressure tire monitoring system, and rear intelligent monitoring system.

In terms of driver information and entertainment, the Emgrand comes with a 12.3-inch digital meter with a 3D interface and high-definition display that shows various driving information. An eight-inch HD central screen is also standard for entertainment and management of vehicle functions such as toggling between Eco, Comfort, and Sport driving modes, opening and closing the sunroof, and accessing other smart aircon features.

“Indeed, the new Geely Emgrand packs in enough features you would normally expect from bigger cars minus their expensive price,” Nishi added. “If I am to sum up the proposition of the Emgrand to the market, it is ‘Value for Money.’  That’s what Geely is known for and that’s exactly what you get on the all-new Emgrand.”

The Emgrand comes in two variants: Premium (P908,000) and Comfort (P798,000). Every purchase comes with a five-year/150,000-km warranty.

Customers who will purchase the all-new Geely Emgrand within the launch period will receive a P50,000 discount and a free one-year periodic maintenance service inclusive of parts, oil, and labor. Customers who will reserve or purchase an Emgrand until May 31 will also automatically get a raffle entry for a chance to win P250,000 savings or rebate.
