The all-new Yaris Cross is another Toyota compact SUV to put on the wish list
MANILA: Toyota Motor Corporation adds another crossover to its stable with the debut of the new-generation Yaris Cross in Japan, carrying over the qualities of the compact hatch to its compact SUV body.
The body sits on the Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) B platform that stresses lean proportions without losing the robust exterior qualities of an SUV. It comes in eight colors including the newly developed Brass Gold Metallic and the more three-dimensional Silver Metallic, plus seven, two-tone color types.
The inside features soft-touch materials from slush molding and felt material on the door trim, a TFT color LCD multi-information display, a head-up display (HUD), and a luggage capacity of 390 liters (class-leading for compact SUVs) when the deck board is lowered. It is the first compact SUV by Toyota to also feature a 40/20/40 split rear seat and a 60/40 split adjustable deck board.
The rear door offers a hands-free power feature activated by simply by kicking your foot under the rear bumper, which is a first for a Toyota compact SUV, and it opens and closes nearly twice as fast compared to a conventional Toyota SUV,
Under the hood are two engine options, a 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder Dynamic Force gasoline engine mated to a direct-shift CVT (continuously variable transmission) and a 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder Dynamic Force hybrid engine using an electric four-wheel drive system (a first for a Toyota compact SUV).
The four-wheel drive trim has Multi-Terrain Select function, another first for a Toyota compact SUV, offering three driver assist modes including Trail and Snow mode.
To increase its level of safety, the all-new Yaris Cross comes with Toyota Safety Sense that features Pre-Collision Safety System, Low Speed Acceleration Control, Emergency Steering Assist, Full Speed Range Radar Cruise Control, Adaptive High-beam System, Road Sign Assist, Secondary Collision Brake, Blind Spot Monitor, S-VSC with lateral wind control, and Toyota Teammate Advanced Park (advanced driving support).
