An Automated Fast Charging System by Volkswagen
MANILA: Since the times are not away when the roads will read,' parking for hybrid vehicles only', the automakers are already putting their heads to come up with such systems or technologies that can assist you in the changing times. The German Volkswagen group has announced that the Wolfsburg engineers are working on automated fast charging system for the next generation electric vehicles.
This automatic e-charging station dubbed as E-Smart Connect would aim to ease the charging process which currently requires owners of electric vehicles to manually connect the stiff and heavy cables to their vehicles. The E-Smart Connect system will use a KUKA LBR iiwa robot with seven drive axles and integrated torque sensors which will enable them to safely connect the charging cable to the electric vehicles.
This automated Quick charging starts with the communication between the electric filling station and vehicle where the electric vehicle transmits its profile data to the charging station and in return gets a target position for automatic parking of it. The DC charging socket of the vehicle must be in the target area of 20 X 20 centimeters. Further, the exact position of the charging socket is determined by a camera which in turn helps the robot to connect the charger right. Once the charging is complete, the robot will automatically disconnect the cable, releasing the vehicle to leave so that another vehicle can get space for charging.
This system indeed has a lot of benefits in terms of safety, time saving, and pollution and hustle free operations. Moreover, this system can be easily used in public places as well.
