Aston Martin awarded with £9-M gov’t funding for its electrification program

MANILA: Aston Martin received £9 million of government funding through the Advanced Propulsion Center UK (APC) for its high-performance electrification strategy.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Where will Aston Martin use the government funding?

The government grant will be used by Aston Martin in the development of its luxury battery electric vehicle platform and its initiatives for its net-zero goals.
  • When will Aston Martin launch its first all-electric model?

Aston Martin will launch its first all-electric model in 2025.
  • The government grant will be used by Aston Martin in the development of its luxury battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform and its initiatives for its net-zero goals.

This is another significant step in Aston Martin’s electrification program, which is the cornerstone of the brand’s “Racing. Green.” sustainability strategy. Aston Martin will invest £2 billion in cutting-edge technologies over the next five years, transitioning from internal combustion engine (ICE) to BEV technology.

Part of this strategy is Project Elevation, a six-partner collaborative research and development project led by Aston Martin. It aims to address the technical challenges of creating a modular BEV platform for a wide range of vehicles — from supercars to sports utility vehicles — using a lightweight, 800-volt traction battery pack and twin front electric drive unit.

“The award of funding from the APC is another major boost to our electrification strategy and constant strive for innovation. Providing further resources to explore the possibilities of our bespoke BEV platform, it will help achieve our ambition to be an in-house BEV technology leader in the ultra-luxury, high-performance segment. We look forward to progressing this project with our collaborative partners and thank the APC for their incredible support,” Aston Martin Chief Technology Officer Roberto Fedeli stated.

With the first all-electric Aston Martin set to debut in 2025, the British ultra-luxury carmaker is now working on ICE alternatives. Aston Martin's first plug-in hybrid model, the Valhalla mid-engined supercar,  will be delivered in 2024. With the long-term goal of having its core range fully electrified by 2030, all new Aston Martin model lines will have an electrified powertrain option by 2026.
