Aston Martin incorporates F1 methodologies in developing Valhalla

MANILA: Aston Martin is adopting Formula 1 (F1) methodologies, expertise, and technologies in the development of the Valhalla supercar.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What powers the Aston Martin Valhalla?

Power comes from an all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain that combines a twin-turbo flat-plane V8 engine with three electric motors.
  • How many units of the Aston Martin Valhalla will be produced?

Only 999 models of the Aston Martin Valhalla will be produced.
  • The ultra-luxury carmaker is working with Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT), the consulting arm of the Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant Formula One (AMF1) team, for the development of its future models.

“It is a great advantage for a car manufacturer to have access to the unique skills and knowledge of a Formula 1 team. F1 engineers are constantly pushing the boundaries in the pursuit of performance and have developed rapid problem-solving tools. With this knowledge ‘in house’ we can seamlessly bring F1 expertise to road car development,” AMPT Engineering Director Claudio Santoni stated.

The vehicle dynamics team is working closely with AMPT to produce the precise features that will enable unparalleled levels of driver engagement in the Aston Martin Valhalla. F1 design relies on simulation tools and the supercar has adopted the techniques used to guarantee that every second spent in the simulator advances the project.

90% of the dynamic features and vehicle setup are done in the simulator, while the final development stage is completed in the real world, on the road and track.

The Valhalla’s cockpit was also inspired from F1, with the driving position having been improved to give the driver race car-level control. The unique carbon fiber bucket seat may be reclined to a wider degree while still providing comfort.

Power comes from an all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain that combines a twin-turbo flat-plane V8 engine with three electric motors. This combination produces a total of 998 horsepower.

“The knowledge and experience of the AMF1 team personnel at AMPT combined with the skills and know-how of our road car development teams has enabled us to bring direct F1 learnings to sports car development,” Aston Martin Product Development Director Carlo Della Casa said.

“Our target for Valhalla is to produce a supercar that will set best-in-class standards for performance, dynamics and driving pleasure. Valhalla will use active technologies to reduce the gap between the ‘gentleman driver’ and the professional one on track. Having open access to the knowledge within the AMF1 team has been a huge advantage for us as we develop this incredible car,” he added.

The production of the Aston Martin Valhalla will begin in 2024. Only 999 models of this supercar will be produced.
